“Retiring Rep. Steve LaTourette of Ohio asked House Republicans why the House would “heed the votes of sleep deprived octogenarians,” according to a source in the meeting.”

Who smacked LaTourette & got him to say something intelligent for a change?

They need to invert the numbers, $41 in cuts for every $1 in tax increase. And no tax increase for 2013, they could only start in 2014.

Haha, Plan “B” was so awesome. The GOP was negotiating with themselves before ever getting an amended version of their August bills from the Senate. They do not know how to negotiate with charlatans.

Years ago there was a provision in the Unemployment Benefits rules that you did NOT have to take a job that was not comparable (in pay) to the one you lost. Is that still part of the rules?? If it is perhaps the new reality needs to be acknowledged that a lot of those good paying union and middle managment jobs are NEVER coming back, at least not any time soon. The rules could then be rewritten to say that after a certain time limit, one should take a job that pays 80% or some other amount of what one earned previously.

“”” Unemployment benefits, which were extended in the Senate bill, are extended for a year with no corresponding spending reductions.””””

Just call it what it is, WELFARE.

I’ll believe it when it’s defeated.

People are dropping out of the Republican party because of what the GOPe has done in disregarding/damaging the party platform.

If they were brave enough to disrespect you once then you better believe they'll be brave enough to do it again. Unknown quotes

You can't force a person to show you respect, but you can refuse to be disrespected!  Unknown quotes

Boo freakin hoo.

Hope is all we have. Maybe a new party will come out of this. These elected officials think they are doing a service by being in Congress. I wish every ballot had to have -” none of the above” as a countable vote.

“Amending the bill would throw into serious flux the carefully negotiated agreement between Senate Minority leader Mitch McConnell and Vice President Joe Biden. “

Oh, what a shame, it would be so much better to throw the US Public off a cliff, under the bus, and into hell, than mess with the; carefully negotiated agreement between Senate Minority leader Mitch McConnell and Vice President Joe Biden.

If the house caves on this they better enjoy their short stay in Washington. Dems own it. Period.

“One thing is clear: there is serious disdain among House Republicans for what the Senate did in the middle of the night.”

Cool - reject it and send the Senate their own bill - and Zero can choke on that cheesey “victory” speech he just gave.

Cantor came out against the senate bill. Should attach tax cuts for everybody amendment and tell Obama he is to blame for middle class tax hikes if he doesn't sign it.

Maybe he can go talk to Rep Tom Cole who said a deal is a deal and it wouldn’t be fair to the Senate. I’m sure that’s the heartbeat of his constituency - let’s be fair to the Senate. Yes, let’s be fair to the Harry Reid’s Senate!

There will be a PR price to pay, no matter what.
There will be a price to pay at the ballot box, too.

Republicans need to remember that the PRIMARY comes BEFORE the General, and they stand to lose more by ticking off their base!

Also? Get this nasty stuff out of the way NOW! Do not “kick the can down the road” again, only to have it pop up right before the next election!

And, Use the “Debt Limit” fight to further cut spending.

If they don’t do anything with it by the 3rd(?) when the new Congress is seated, isn’t all of this pretty much ‘erased’ anyway?

Let us go over the cliff. I have a new calculation. I know longer worry about what is best for the economy. I just measure who suffers the most.

The cliff will hurt me but it seems to hurt the liberal states, and the wind, ethanol, and movie industries the hardest.

We have lost the debate. If the rich east/west coast libs want taxes let’s give it to them good and hard. Quit bailing out the liberal states with targeted deductions and an escape form the AMT.

Only agree to taxes with no loopholes.
