Gun-control advocates say Obama is too late
Wash Times ^ | Thursday, January 17, 2013 | David Sherfinski

The big-ticket items in President Obama’s push for action on gun control will require the approval of Congress, but many of the 23 executive moves he announced Wednesday could have been taken at any time in his first term — a point that nettles those who have been advocating for stricter measures.

“It’s a disgrace that it hasn’t been done until now,” said Richard E. Gardiner, a lawyer based in Northern Virginia. “I didn’t see anything in here that they couldn’t already have been doing and in fact that the pro-gun people have been encouraging for years.” ...

“It’s not as though we had a policy paper sitting on the shelf waiting somewhere,” said a senior administration official, speaking on background during a conference call briefing before the proposals were unveiled. “We met with a lot of groups and we learned a lot of ideas that came as a result of this process, so we’ve tried to be as comprehensive as possible.”...

“The fact that it was not even mentioned during the campaign, or hardly mentioned, shows that this is not a selling political issue. It really isn’t,” he [Rep. Peter T. King, New York Republican] told CNN. “I wonder how serious he really is. I’m not questioning his motives, but he never mentioned it during the campaign. And now he knows that for the next two months all we’re going to be talking about is the debt ceiling, sequestration, the continuing resolution, you know, the ending of the fiscal year, all of these.”

LIAR!

Well, not really a lie as the pre-designed plan wasn't on a shelf, it was in a drawer.

------

Congratulations to The Washington Times for not falling for the latest politically correct meme and calling gun control, "gun violence."

I understand that gun sales and manufacture have skyrocketed since Obama took office. If he and his leftist cronies had kept their flippin' yaps shut about guns, there'd be 50,000,000 fewer of them and half as many new owners.

As a result, statistically, there will be more shootings and mass murders. Thank you Barry Soetoro.... or Sahkara, or Obamy or whatever the heck your name is.

The simple reason hussein never bothered to take action before is this, there is no real need to take action at all. Last year less than one hundred people lost their lives in the six or so mass shooting events that occurred. One hundred people, six events. Six way over sensationalized events. You didn’t hear about the roughly two and a half million times people used a firearm to defend themselves, did you? That doesn’t fit with the gun grabbers agenda, which obviously has nothing to do with safety. The reason hussein is acting now is that his cohorts in crime in the MSM have whipped up a huge emotional response. Time to take advantage of that, of us. This is what dictators and fascists do to seize power little by little. America is fighting for her life right in front of your eyes people.

So it follows that if 0bama’s gun control measures will stop tragedies like Sandy Hook, his failure to push them through Congress during the first two years of his first term when he controlled both houses of Congress lays the responsibility for the massacre on him...

I don’t know about your numbers, but BO and the devoted gun grabber set have certainly sold a lot more weapons in recent weeks than any weapons marketer’s paid-for ad campaign could have accomplished in several years. If only they could collect a regular commission on their sales they would be as loaded as a Mega Millions lottery winner.

I think it’s a mistake, though, to tag the gun-grabbers as solely “leftist/liberal”. I have plenty of liberal acquaintances who are also staunch NRA members based on both their valuing the freedom to defend themselves, and opposition to disarming the general public. The real divide is between those who trust their neighbors more than they trust state institutions, and those who are devoted to centralization and expansion of state power as long as they can claim their share of the loot such power concentrations accumulate for the adherents to whatever faction is currently in control of the levers of power.

Likewise, it’s a mistake to think about BO in terms of his real or alleged affiliations, i.e., “Muslim” or “Liberal” or “Marxist/Communist”. BO is an indifferently educated (despite his Ivy League credentials) narcissist, whose basic allegiance is to BO. As these disappointed civilian disarmament zealots are noting, he does not share their zealotry for this (or most any) issue. He does have an enthusiasm for golf and posh vacation expeditions however, which he can indulge from his perch on the Imperial Presidency roost our polity has been erecting for nearly a century now. I wonder if he will bring back the Nixon “Palace Guards” uniforms for the Secret Service cadre assigned to 1600 Pennsylvania Ave? Even if only to ‘twist the knife’ in his political adversaries, which is another hobby he seems to enjoy.

Not only are many of these orders things he could have done long before without a huge pep rally
(How many children have died now because of his politically oriented delay till after his re-election?? HA-HA),
but he was told that a number of Democrats in the Senate are scared to vote for many of his recommendations like thr rifle ban,
but his liberal base, and cheer leaders at MSNBC, insist that he push the entire package.

Will any luck Dems will be the ones to fall on their faces.

Meanwhile lib governors like Coumo are looking to the D POTUS primary. I see fat-so vhimed in again on Obama's side.

WRONG. That's the Left's argument: more guns, more crime. It does not bear out in reality. Violent crime has been dropping for decades, following the explosion of concealed-carry laws and licensees across the nation.

As long as they are primarily owned by peaceable people, more guns = LESS crime.

“there will be more shootings and mass murders.”

Most likely engineered by The Left. The victims will simply be collateral damage in their war to disarm the citizenry.

Watta frickin’ self-serving phony Ohaha is-——manipulating the Newtown tragedy for his rank political agenda.

He PR’ed a fake posed pic of himself——looking like a Sad Sack-—captioned “it was the worst day of his life.”

It WAS bad——but he would have looked less like a phony-baloney if he had been saddened WRT five Americans slaughtered in Benghazi.

He couldn't bring it up in his first term or someone might have come back at him not doing a thing to slow down gun violence in his own hometown of Chicago when he was a senator and community organizer.

Yet another shiny object to distract the sheeple from more important things; Benghazi, the budget, the deficit, ObamaCare...(the list is too long to mention).

***The simple reason hussein never bothered to take action before is this, there is no real need to take action at all.***

The problem was fixed back in 1968. Here is what Lyndon Johnson said when he signed the 1968 Gun Control Act into law...

“Today we begin to disarm the criminal and the careless and the insane. All of our people who are deeply concerned in this country about law and order should hail this day.”

- Lyndon Johnson when he signed the 1968 GCA into law.

The big lie is that Obama issued 23 executive orders. Relatively few of the list are true “executive orders.”

I mean, “appoint and ATF director.” How is that an executive order? That’s more like a post-it note to remind self to do the job he was elected to do.

The funniest summation I saw about this list was at http://phelps.donotremove.net/2013/01/obamas-new-executive-orders/. It was one of the best summations, too.

More guns = more crime is NOT what I meant to say, please accept this change to my typo "...there will be more shootings and mass murder shootings". In that sentence, I was referring to gun deaths only.

If there were no guns, there would be no gun-deaths. I made no reference to the effect of crime and homicides by all causes. I'm a firm believer in man's ability to find a way to kill his fellow man with the next lower weapon on the totem pole.

But let's be honest; total crime, with more guns per 100,000 population, however, may go up, or it may go down, depending on many many factors, and depending on whose stats you read, original bias of the authors, the samples, regression theories used, penetration of psychotropic drugs within the samples, etc., ad astra.

It is, however, straight logic to assume that.... more guns = more gun deaths. Just as the more cars on the highway on July 4th = the more auto accidents you will have. Weekends--when the greatest number of people are on the road--predictably see the highest numbers of crash victims, with a combined average of 143 deaths for Saturday and Sunday, according to the IIHS.
