Viewpoint: What if women ruled the world?
BBC News Magazine ^ | 3-7-2013 | Dee Dee Myers

Posted on 03/09/2013 7:30:47 AM PST by haffast

Not so long ago, the idea that women might rule the world seemed slightly ridiculous - like something out of science fiction. But in an essay to mark International Women's Day, political analyst and former White House press secretary Dee Dee Myers argues it's now a topic that can be seriously discussed.

Women clearly lacked the intellectual capacity and emotional fortitude to make the difficult decisions that leadership required. It wasn't bias, it was biology - it was just the way women were made.

But that was then. In recent decades, attitudes and ideas have changed - and fast. That's not to say that every corner of the world has welcomed women moving from the traditional and private into the modern and public. But move they have.

So what's changed? A lot. As a huge and growing body of research and experience makes clear, empowering women makes things better. Not perfect. But better.

snip

Former US Secretary of State Dr Condoleezza Rice says she has learned first-hand that you need women to participate in the peace process.

"First and foremost women are often the guardians of the village, the family, and are therefore the ones who suffer most in conflict zones. They're often the target of marauding forces, the target of those who would rape and maim and if you can engage them in the process, then they also can help the society to heal."

So empowering women isn't about political correctness, it's about improving outcomes. It's about investing in stronger economies and healthier communities - it's about ending conflicts, and sustaining peace. It's about improving the quality of life for people all over the world.

Empowering women isn't just the right thing, it's the necessary thing. And because women are increasingly ruling, the world is changing for the better.

Perhaps “stable” would have been a better word?

But that's the whole point - there's this pop-psychology meme being spread for the last 40 years that, if women were in charge, there would be no more wars or conflict in the world, just peace, because women "aren't violent", and "care about children".

And I'm calling BS - because women are still human, and subject to the same motives & emotions (greed, covetousness, jealousy, anger, humiliation, etc.) that drive men to conflicts and war.

They already got the 19th Amendment, and with it destroyed a nation.

What more do they want?

Seriously? I find it quite sad that you feel the need to write such a statement. If you really feel that women have destroyed a nation, you must have a set of blinders on.

The destruction of ‘civilized’ society has most always, IMO, rested on the head of mankind.

Mankind being generic for people. People of both sexes can take the credit and the blame for what goes on in this country. IMO, it’s the people who don’t pay attention to what is REALLY going on and who behave like freaking sheep following whatever is popular, that are to blame for societal breakdown.

And no...I don’t believe it’s women’s fault alone. But you, of course, are entitled to your opinion.

They don’t???

lol...they DID....they used to have it made. Get to spend all the time with your family or friends while the menfolk went out into dangerous situations, went to war, busted their butts working to bring home money.

And then the women's liberation movement screwed THAT all up.

The frantic and overpowering insistence of so-called "progressives" like Dee Dee to concede the right to decide which child is allowed to realize its right to life, liberty and pursuit of happiness, and which child is to be deprived of those Creator-endowed, thus unalienable, rights, would indicate that, in the "progressive" view, women do, in fact, "rule the world."

Surprisingly, "progressive" men have bought into that idea.

That kind of concession to coercive power by any imperfect individual or collection of imperfect individuals was not the intention of the Framers of the Constitution of the United States, as is evidenced by the historical record.

"The God who gave us life, gave us liberty at the same time: the hand of force may destroy, but cannot disjoin them."

"Ideas have consequences." - Weaver

My wife always says if women were in charge they would just nuke everybody and be done with it. She is very wise.

Just like all liberal myths, the truth is likely just the opposite of what they say. If you can kill your own baby, what other bridges are there?

Pray for America

Dee Dee, since you consider yourself an intellectual because you wrote a book . . .

NO ONE RULES THE WORLD

Not men, not women.

There are over 200 separate countries.

None of them control everything politically, economically or militarily.

GOT IT YET DUMMY?

My husband and I decided that one of us always had to make the final decision.

I found out how to get my way every time. The wife didn't care as long as she got the last word. So after outlining how it was going to be, I just shut up and listened without responding further until she wound down. Then we did it my way.

Where’s that graphic Ann Coulter made showing government spending before the 19th Amendment, and after?

"First and foremost women are often the guardians of the village, the family, and are therefore the ones who suffer most in conflict zones...."

Perhaps Ms. Rice has never heard of those obscure members of any society known as "soldiers?"

I guess all that fighting and dying can't compare to the distress felt by women in any conflict.

The hauteur of these hot house flowers is breathtaking.

Don’t they now? They have given us a majority Democrat government. I find it to be a mess.

And of course, both sexes are equally known for their reverence of a concept known as "fashion."

“There would be no wars, but every 28 days there would be some real heavy negotiating.” - Robin Williams

That's funny but do you people realize that women, in groups, actually synchronize their menstrual cycles? That alone in a female-run society could lead to warfare on a previously unknown scale!
