Andy is fighting back.
As tens of thousands of New Yorkers have declared they will not comply with his massive gun ban, he has decided to play hardball.
Im talking about Andrew Cuomo, the governor of New York. At the first of the year, he rammed through a toughest-in-the-nation gun ban that criminalizes tens of thousands of law-abiding New Yorkers.
Guns and magazines theyve owned for years suddenly became illegal, and a massive registration scheme was foisted upon them. Upset and resistance were widespread and immediate.
And a couple of weeks ago, a few thousand salt-of-the-earth New Yorkers gathered on the grounds of the state Capitol and shouted that they would not comply.
Like Rosa Parks and Martin Luther King Jr., they pledged civil disobedience to an unjust and immoral law. They chose obedience to Constitution over subjection to its perversion.
Across upstate, a handful of sheriffs whose association had denounced the law said that they would not enforce it.
That showed the governor he had a problem.
Most elected officials would have dealt with that with outreach, by trying to make peace, by at least giving his opponents a fair hearing.
But Andrew Cuomo isnt most elected officials.
He is a special breed of cat.
So hes offering a reward.
Specifically, his administration is offering a $500 reward to anyone who gives police a tip that leads to someones arrest for possessing an illegal gun.
He criminalizes law-abiding citizens, they resist his efforts, he hires their neighbors to turn them in.
For years, thugs and drug dealers have been gunning people down on the streets. For years, rampant urban violence has been a cancer in New Yorks cities.
And there was no reward.
No $500 to induce one thug to turn another in.
But theres a new gun law, and this new initiative, and anyone who dares resist the governors dictate needs to fear everyone around him.
Heres how it works.
A toll-free number has been established. State troopers will answer it around the clock. People will call, anonymously, and report folks who have an illegal gun.
Like your turkey shotgun with the newly outlawed thumb-hole stock, or the high-capacity magazine that came with your pistol when you bought it in Pennsylvania.
The troopers will pass that tip to the law-enforcement agency in the community where the alleged gun owner lives. The state will later contact that agency to see how worthwhile the tip was. At the end of the investigation, the state will expect a report from the agency on how it went.
I think thats meant to make sure the local agency doesnt blow off the tip.
If there is an arrest, the state will pay $500 to the person who gave the tip.
Im not sure where the Fourth Amendment fits in all this. Apparently, uncorroborated anonymous tips are going to be considered probable cause to make someone the subject of a state-monitored police investigation. That would presumably include some sort of search warrant. How can you find out, for example, if someone has an illegal gun without going through their property and possessions?
Sounds like a great way to screw with somebody.
Sounds like a great way to shred the Constitution.
Sounds like a great way to turn people against one another and to turn every busybody or disaffected brother-in-law into a narc.
But Andy is that serious about guns, and the people who own them.
Apparently, a lot more serious than he is about rape, murder and child molesting.
Because I dont find any reference anywhere to a New York state program where you are offered a reward for turning in rapists, killers or pedophiles.
Rape and murder a child, and the state does not offer a reward for your arrest. Have a shotgun with a collapsible stock like those sold all across America and theres $500 on your head.
It seems like the state is more interested in suppressing your freedom than it is in protecting victims lives. It seems like New York doesnt want to catch criminals, it wants to catch grampas.
And it is willing to pay snitches to do it.
Just like Big Brother.
And Hitler and Stalin.
Turn the people against one another, make sycophants the servile tattletales of an angry and powerful state.
And pay people to spy on one another.
Thats Andrew Cuomos America.
TITLE:
Tip line to encourage residents to report illegal firearm possession.
BODY OF FORUM THREAD:
Just received this from the NYSRPA (makes me want to vomit) :
Ladies and Gentlemen,
The letter shown below is from DCJS but was distributed by a Law Enforcement Association to all its members. Ive removed the Associations information to protect our source but wanted to show you the depths to which we are falling. Orwell was right; just 29 off years on the date!

The Letter
At a time when all of us are finding ourselves doing more with less, a reminder about a resource available from New York State that can assist you in your efforts to solve cases, prevent crime and better serve and protect your communities.
The state has established a toll-free tip line 1-855-GUNSNYS (1-855- 486-7697) to encourage residents to report illegal firearm possession. The tip line also allows for information to be submitted via text individuals can text GUNTIP and their message to CRIMES (274637). While the state will provide the administrative support and fund the rewards, the investigation and validity of the tip will be up to each local department.
To spread the word about this free resource, New York State is planning a comprehensive campaign, including public service announcements that will air on television and radio stations across Upstate.
The tip line can provide your agencies with another avenue for receiving intelligence about crimes being committed in your jurisdictions. This initiative is designed for communities where no tip lines are in place and is not meant to replace existing gun tip lines.
Heres how the tip line operates:
The New York State Police staff the tip line 24 hours a day. Upon receiving a call, troopers will solicit as much information as possible regarding a firearm tip, while allowing the individual to remain anonymous. The caller will be informed that this program is not the traditional gun buyback program but rather is focused on identifying individuals who are carrying an illegal firearm.
The State Police will in turn contact the appropriate police agency with the lead to initiate an investigation. Staff from the Division of Criminal Justice Services (DCJS) will follow up with that agency to determine the validity of the lead. Once the investigation is completed, the police agency would convey to DCJS the outcome of the investigation.
If the information leads to an arrest for the illegal possession of a firearm, the tipster will be awarded $500. DCJS staff will handle all of the financial transactions.
State Police staff will explain the program in its entirety upon notifying an agency that a lead has been generated for their jurisdiction. If you have any questions in the interim, please contact DCJS Deputy Commissioner Tony Perez in the Office of Public Safety at 518-485-7610.

State: $500 reward for turning in illegal gun
ALBANY A program aimed at rewarding people who blow the whistle on illegal gun owners has yet to show significant results, says three police agencies in the New York.
In February of 2012, 11 months before the passage of the NY SAFE Act, Governor Cuomos office announced a four pronged initiative to curb gun violence. One of the programs was a cash reward for citizens who lead police to the arrest and confiscation of illegal fire arms.
Known as the Gun Tip Line, New Yorkers can call a toll free hotline to alert police if they believe someone they know has an illegal gun.
The call would be picked up by state police and local law enforcement would be notified if the tip seemed reliable. If there was an arrest the tipster would receive as much as $500.

Have we NEEDED to??
Have we ever pursued this argument in the STREETS?
From Village Voice, August 2008:
ANDREW CUOMO AND FREDDIE AND FANNIE:
. . .How the youngest Housing and Urban Development secretary in history gave birth to the mortgage crisis
Well, Elsie, it isn’t the voting that gives them the power, that just gives them the position.
The tax revenue gives them the power.
That’s what I mean by enabling.
It reminds me of the scene in Defiance when the local police show up at the farmers place looking for Jews and brag about how much money they get for turning them into the SS.
The callers number is probably automatically logged and/or a case number is issued to the caller as a receipt in case the tip pans out
Not illegal aliens but Democratic party leaders in the cities & county levels. TV talking heads & newspaper editors. Make them the target of the state and see how they like it.
Call CPS on them, too.
I hope millions of people find out the names of Cuomo’s body guards then call the number and report Andy’s cops have guns.
AHhhh...
He doesn’t, the object is to annoy the police and the target.
