Terrifying dash-cam footage captures the moment a crazed motorist opened fire with an AK-47 rifle at police officers who had just pulled him over for a minor traffic violation in Middlefield, Ohio.

James Gilkerson, 42, exited his parked car and then fired 37 shots at the officers and their patrol car, the Cleveland Plain Dealer reported. Officers Erin Thomas and Brandon Savage returned fire, killing Gilkerson.

Certainly a justified shoot but the video is interesting. Looks like suicide by cop but plenty of triggers for the anti's to use. The audio is interesting. The guy was hit but not completely down, the lady cop sounds like she is more worried about calling dispatch then making sure the guy shooting at her is down.

I read the story at the news site.

She’d had a part of an index finger shot off in the first exchange of fire.

I guess if Obama plants enough seeds, eventually one is going to sprout.

Yes, I read that as well. She sounds like she’s panicking.

I've been saying this for a while -- suicide is way up in this country. If someone is feeling depressed and hopeless, and if they happen to blame "the authorities", then suicide by cop may seem like an option. Or, if such a person is just driving around and runs a stop sign and gets pulled over, they might make a split second decision to just "have a blast" over pretty much nothing.

Much of the country is hovering at the brink.

Thought I heard the shooter saying “Kill me!”

Hope she is not too badly hurt, live fire can be an eye opener.

OK, we have an assault weapon, a hi-cap magazine. Do we have a Tea Bagger right wing white guy?

I’m exactly the opposite way. The worse things get the more calm I become. I just feel a need to keep an even keel in stormy seas.

I find that's a very good trait to have.

He did in fact say that, several times.Looks like a suicide by cop,he could have easily killed both officers if he really wanted to do so.

If I were a cop I sure hope my partner wasn’t the type to panic under fire. The other cop didn’t seem to hesitate.

I agree: very good trait to have.

But a lot of people do not have that trait.

In my youth it didn’t take much to send me into a rage and that just made things worse.

I was in a situation where a guy lost part of a finger and I got his hand above his heart and applied direct pressure while I dragged him into the office. He was walking but dazed.

Receptionist freaked. Completely. I told her it was just a finger, and to open the first aid kit. Harshly. I had to apologize later.

You never know how people will react until it happens.

She said “You cover and I’ll call dispatch.” Something about that bugs me. That, and her screaming.

After that it almost sounds like she’s saying ‘stop firing’ and I think I also hear ‘I’m hit’. Tough situation and they certainly didn’t have long to respond.

The Boston cop who was shot by the bombers had a locking holster. I read he would have had to do 3 different things to draw his weapon. Seems like that delay would have gotten these 2 cops killed.
