All this is true but misses the main point- if we took 3 hours or 12 hours to reach him, we should have tried.
When it started we had no idea how long it was going to last.

Your question naturally arises from the point: Over 30 Americans were abandoned to be killed by foreigners and terrorists in Benghazi. In the end, four were killed.
The simplest explanation is that these Americans were abandoned due to a misguided pacifist hesitancy—ala Jimmy Carter. All other explanations are WORSE, by far.
