But what if this was some kid that got up to proclaim their support for gay marriage and how proud they are to be bisexual?

Do you have some fundamental disagreement with the 1st Amendment?

Of course they would!

Because “unjust” rules that “violate the constitution” need to be broken*!!!

*Like lying to the school officials that may have just let him make the speech. We have no idea if they ever saw it. But we do know they require a copy of it beforehand, and he decided that that was crap because he has a constitutional right to use the valedictorian’s speech for whatever he wants...because that’s in the constitution somewhere.

No.

Do you have some issue with this kid not being honest from the start?

He wasn’t. So I need to applaud him for being a liar because I like the subject he decided to go off on?

No one “censored” this speech. They cut the mike when he decided to not do the speech that was agreed upon. If he disliked the setup then he could have just said “I’m not doing the speech”.

It’s hard even for us, to admit that we are already in a totalitarian state. We were taught as kids that this was the land of the free and that freedoms were guaranteed by the constitution.
I no longer have that illusion.

Depends on what he said
how far off his remarks did he go?
seriously,,to be edited that closely does not bother you? You believe in not allowing an extemporaneous thought or remark? I’m sure he didn’t have the phrase “they threatened to cut my mic if I go off my speech” in his speech,,so,,he was not supposed to expose that...you are all about confirming and behaving? Wow,,you must have gone to public school

He willfully disregarded the rules for his own aggrandizement

What aggrandizement? He exposed the threat the district made to him and then they cut his mic.....

you call that aggrandizement.

Obama must love you!

... he was fully aware of the school’s rules and decided to shirk them.

I agree. In fact, regardless that the student started talking about the Constitution, Fx's title for this article is misleading, imo. This is because this wasn't really an attack on the Constitution as evidenced by the fair warning about deviating from approved speech regardless of material.

“Would you be so supportive if the valdictorian’s speech was pro-homosexuality and called for support of same sex marriages? “

YESSSSSS!!! Unequivocally yes I would support his right to give that speech and let him deal with the responsibility and consequences of it. Millions have DIED supporting that right.

What is WRONG with you?!!!!!

I told ya, Texas has an issue. Austin can not be contained.

Yeah, we got a problem ... too many immigrants - from south of the border and from within our own country.

Are you insane??? YOu must be.. So,, if I WARN you that you will not abllowed to exercise your constitutional right to free speech,,and you DO exercise it and I PUNISH you,,,then you are going to say your constitutional right was not violated? Really?

Wow. Just wow.

Really?

Are some people here this off that they are reduced to making it seem like a student that could not follow pre-agreed rules is now like Sam Adams?

No it “does not bother me”. He was aware of the setup. He decided to go off of it after he agreed to it. He therefore got cut off.

“you are all about confirming and behaving”

Yeah, expecting the same students 99% of FR bitches about being so wild and disrespectful, to actually be just that (regardless of their political views)is REALLY all about being some PS drone?

So when some kid gets on stage to go off on some speech WE DONT AGREE WITH, I completely expect the same people applauding this to keep their mouths firmly shut.

So I need to applaud him for being a liar because I like the subject he decided to go off on?

What do you think the reaction would have been if the kid deviated from his planned remarks with some leftist-approved drivel? Do you really think this was about 'rules'?

Guarantee you, this was about the subject matter, and the fact that the government drones consider it the worst sort of hate speech.

Go head, make the argument we are not on a precipice of a totalitarian state.

Young people are starting to understand what's happening... they're moving to our side.

****No, the rule was to not deviate from the approved speech.****

If the school has the ability to monitor the speech and shut off the microphone, then of what use is the approval of speeches?

I suppose you haven't noticed…

There is nothing in my post that would reasonably lead you to suppose that.

I have watched our government turn 1917 Red since the middle 60's. You and I no doubt agree the trend continues apace.

In fact, let’s start using the “term 1917 Red” in order to reverse the Red-Blue political description that was foisted on us by a PC, agenda-driven MSM. Do you think it adopted that scheme by accident, or by design?

I read your About Page and do not disagree with anything you wrote. Suggest you read mine and see if you would continue to "suppose".

If you re-read my most recent post, you will note I did not disparage his behavior in the slightest. My point was that he picked a potentially self-defeating and inefficient time to launch an attack, while at the same time demonstrating a serious disregard of rules.

Quite different if he had been accepted into one of the Ivy League institutions. Not very smart or discrete behavior, however, for an applicant to the USNA where one is required and expected to stringently conform to the rules 24/7 for several years.

As you may know, while military officers are graded on their initiative, they are usually downgraded on their reckless disregard of established rules and procedures.

I hope we have a chance to follow this saga. If they indeed let him in (perhaps only to avoid negative PR), he may well receive extra “scrutiny” to assure he is capable of following rules…such that induce him to give it up after the first few weeks
