‘US close to OK on arming Syrian rebels’

WASHINGTON (AP) — Moved by the Assad regime’s rapid advance, the Obama administration could decide this week to approve lethal aid for the beleaguered Syrian rebels and will weigh the merits of a less likely move to send in U.S. airpower to enforce a no-fly zone over the civil war-wracked nation, officials said Sunday.

White House meetings are planned over the coming days, as Syrian President Bashar Assad’s government forces are apparently poised for an attack on the key city of Homs, which could cut off Syria’s armed opposition from the south of the country. As many as 5,000 Hezbollah fighters are now in Syria, officials believe, helping the regime press on with its campaign after capturing the town of Qusair near the Lebanese border last week.

Opposition leaders have warned Washington that their rebellion could face devastating and irreversible losses without greater support, and the warnings are prompting the United States to consider drastic action.

Secretary of State John Kerry postponed a planned trip Monday to Israel and three other Mideast countries to participate in White House discussions, said officials who weren’t authorized to speak publicly on the matter and demanded anonymity.

It’s only stupidity if it’s inconsistent with their goals.

In this case, it’s completely consistent with their goals.

“..Lordy this administration is out to get us all killed..”

He already has U.S. military people in Mali and Somalia; he wants his own war and he wants it to be in Africa with blacks involved, preferably killing white people (our white people, that is).

“Could decide? What is this, a game for ‘evolving’ labotatory chimps? It CAN’T be for rational humans.”

There is a minor typo, corrected as follows:
“Could decide? What is this, a game for ‘evolving’ lobotomized chimps? It CAN’T be for rational humans.”

A smart country would back the winner, not the obvious loser.

The "rebels" (al Quida), whom the Obama regime supports, are getting thier asses kicked. Their only hope for victory is if the US puts boots on the ground.

Obama is worried that his Sunni alQaeda allies are losing?

“My typo was close though.”

But my version describes more Democrats!

Note to self: Gotta work on charity towards Democrats.

Faith, hope, and charity - no more!

Democrats imposed hope, gave others wealth as charity, and faith is now ‘strained’ to say the least.

Charity be damned! Vote ‘em all out. Prep for , as Baghad Bob said, the “Mother of all Political fights”.

Impossible, everyone *knows* that we've been shipping arms directly to jihadists for *two years* already. /s

Our guys won’t have to go far because one day we’re going to wake up to a world war outside our front doors. That one day is very close to happening. Look for something serious before ‘16.

Every war is different from the one previous, and it’s a popular truism that the generals are always figting the last one.

I would argue that we’re already in World War III.

But I get your point; the terrorists will be kicking in our doors before long, and congress will be calling it their civil right, while our demented president will be telling us to be charitable toward them, since they had underprivileged childhoods...

Meanwhile, they set up training camps in upstate New York and build mosques in ever major city, then populate them with the most angry and militant imams they can find.

And all we hear is a lot of government yakety-yak about their “civil rights.”

Bet the farm on it.

I think the kenyan wants to go after Israel hard after the mid terms. He needs the Syrian situation wrapped up before that.

The half-Moslem is scum — he wants his Sunni Jihadi brethren to win in Syria and then will get them to attack Israel

why would we arm the rebels?

the facts are that doing so will only insure even more of Syria resembles Afghanistan as it was by the mid 1990s - pulverized back to the stone age - more, thousands more civilian casualties, and thousands more Syrian refugees, and wider Russian and Iranian involvement.

If we were smart, we’d offer to supplant both Iran and Russia as Syria’s “best friend”, against the Sunni Islamists, and see what we could get for it.
