How can Obama take us to war in Syria without asking congress?

Beyond troubling considerations in regards to the rebels, there are serious questions on the constitutionality and appropriateness of President Obama's military options. While mainstream media outlets are busy getting all worked up for the potential ratings bonanza a new war will bring, dolling out all the typical military analysts to give us tantalizing speculations on how cruise missile and drone strikes on Assad's forces could play out, no one seems to be asking if President Obama even has the authority to launch a strike in the first place. How far have we fallen into the abyss of an unchecked executive that the President does not even bother to play the congressional authorization game anymore?

Thats true but I don’t recall reading that a police action was exempt from regular constitutional requirements. At least some form of authorization would be nice, but it seems as many here have pointed out that congress, regardless of party, no longer takes its responsibility seriously.

Yeah I agree we have to add those lines to make it clear because we are becoming dumber and more corrupt as a nation(look at who we elected twice)

In 1973 they did add something to the war powers act and they gave the president 60 days to do what he wanted before having to go to congress . I don’t they intended for the president to just go off and attack anyone he wanted but I don’t think intentions mean a darn thing to this guy

You would think knowing how lawless this guy is that congress would refrain from giving him more power but they just recently gave him the power to pick up and hold indefinitely any American he deems a threat to national security ... we are now a lawless nation

He can do it because there’s no one in DC to tell him he can’t. All he feels he needs is John McCain’s support. And he has that.

And Lindsay Gayham. And the other Republicans don't seem to show much of an interest in opposing him outside of Cruz and Paul.
