John Bolton is a POS (vanity, obviously)
me

Greta was in for O'Reilly tonight. One of her guests was John Bolton. Greta asked Bolton if Obama had the authority to strike Syria without Congressional approval. Bolton didn't hesitate for a second. He said Obama absolutely has that authority.

The Constitution gives Congress the sole authority to declare war. The War Powers Act gives the President some power to act, but only if the US is faced with an imminent threat.

Evidently none of that matters to Bolton. Perhaps he thinks we should return to some sort of absolute monarchy.

This really surprises and bothers me. I thought Bolton was one of the good guys.

Bolton is a neo-con. He’s like a gambling addict who always want in on some action. Bolton always wants in on some military action.

They are scared out their minds. They fall back on old plans that worked in the past.

Evidently, that is what Bolton sincerely thinks and he’s close to that type of knowledge. Of course, he isn’t a Hussein man, but if that is what he believes about presidential power in this regard, then that is what he thinks, Hussein or no Hussein.

I personally think the only time a president should have the right to launch a military strike without congressional approval is an attack on the homeland or a retaliatory strike on our assets overseas.

Bolton was a big cheerleader for the debacle in Iraq. He probably still defends that fiasco to this very day.

The American neo-con goal is to rid the Middle East of every non Muslim, so of course someone like Bolton would say this.

Greta asked Bolton if Obama had the authority to strike Syria without Congressional approval.

If that's actually what Greta asked, then that's a PC question. Greta really needed to ask if Obama had the constitutional authority to strike Syria without congressional approval.

Bolton has made quite a few statements like this that definitely took him off my list of “good guys”. Krauthammer is in the same crowd — seems like he’s on the right side, and then he says something that just makes my jaw drop open.

The War Powers Act gives the prez unilateral first strike authority with strict duration limitations.

That debacle in Iraq (rightly or wrongly executed) was based on the very same canisters of poison gas being featured foremost in the news of today.

They probably still have USA markings visible on them.

Unconstitutional, of course, but at this point, WHAT DIFFERENCE DOES IT MAKE?

Presidential authority I guess, is what you make of it. It would be nice if we could expect Boehner to stand up to him on it. Pretend to have a little respect for the rule of law.
