Secretary of Health and Human Services Kathleen Sebelius defended Obamacare in a very contentious interview with Daily Show host Jon Stewart on Monday night.
Stewart pressed Sebelius on why businesses get a one-year delay on Obamacare but individuals do not. After several attempts for an answer, Sebelius eventually said individuals could delay Obamacare for a year -- by paying the penalty.
JON STEWART: So this is what some would consider the first mall that's been created [for purchasing health care insurance].
KATHLEEN SEBELIUS: You bet. The first -- new rules for companies.
STEWART: So why is it that individuals, though, couldn't say that they didn't want to do it just for a year, like business?
SEBELIUS: Well, they can.
STEWART: Oh, they --
SEBELIUS: They'd pay a fine. They'd pay a fine at the end of the year, but they don't have to -- I mean, they can say I didn't want to do it. The theory is they can't pick and choose if they're going to get hit by a bus or diagnosed with a illness. For a lot of young folks, there is one fall on the basketball court, one auto accident from a lifetime of hospital bills they can't pay.

Young folks who fall or have an accident without insurance just won’t pay the bill. If they have no assets, they’ll just let it go to collections. No lifetime of paying medical bills. These people truly live a fantasy world where they have not considered real human behavior, as it interferes with their utopian vision of rainbows and unicorns.
I will not comply with obamacare or the fine.
And Jon Stewart to boot. He makes a joke at of everything this is not a joke. I dont even watch TV anymore its filled with charlatans and sluts.
She makes it sound like you can only pay the penalty one time. I have news for this bitch I can only afford the find each year.

The whole execrable concept of Civil Disobedience is liberal at its core. It renounces force, except for that which is sanctioned by the State. Proper disobedience must admit the use of force, even if the result is that some of the Enforcers never meet their grandchildren.
They’re going to have to build new jails. Nobody I know is signing up for CommieCare, nor do we plan to pay any unconstitutional fines for not buying it. That’s that.

That is a growing problem for the media (in which I include Stewart and his ilk); too many people kick back after dinner & turn on a PC. They still have the low/no information voters, but for a growing number of people they simply represent the latest take on FDR’s firesaide chats.

Last night on our local news I saw the mayor of the city of Elizabeth NJ addressing a number of (mostly black) residents at a meeting to steer them to the exchange. I was struck by the absence of Elizabeth’s large Hispanic population, and curious as to why the mayor thought any of those in attendance were going to sign up once they were told they’d have to pay. Non-compliance from the right should be the government’s last concern; unassimilated minorities who only recently started joining the workforce will head right back to the dole and un derground economy once they see their earnings robbed to pay for this (they’ll simply opt for the “freebie” health insurance again).
It isn’t $95...it’s $95 or 1% of gross income, whichever is LARGER. That isn’t a fine and it isn’t a tax..it’s EXTORTION.

The problem with Sebelius’ answer is that it’s a lie - like every thing else about Obamacare. It’s because the insurance companies are no longer allowed to sell the old policies. Insurance policies must now include all of the Obamacare giveaways. This means the policies must now include the cost of coverage for pre-existing conditions, “the pill” for sluts, coverage for 26 year old kids, etc. This is the source of the cost increases. Sure, you can avoid the exchanges by paying the fines, but you can’t avoid the costs!
She’s just admitted the darn thing is Unconstitutional, per Roberts.
It’s my understanding there is no enforcement allowed by law other than to withhold it from your tax refund. No refund .... no way to collect i.e. the tiger is toothless.
Just a Chicago thug protection racket. “Nice health coverage you got there. Shame something should happen to it. We can protect you for a small fee.”
I wonder if skipping the divorce and renewing vows with Elvis each year would count?
