When we see events like this, I inevitably (and understandably) receive questions about whether the solar eruption was caused by the incoming comet. We’ve dealt with this many times now, and the answer so far has always been “no”.

Articles like this make me feel like we’ve been transported back to the year 1370 with all the ignorance and superstition that implies, where people are bracing for another punishment by God in the form of the plague, every poorly understood or novel phenomenon is attributed to a diety, and everyone knows the heavens revolve around the earth because the Vatican said so.

There are actually 4 blood moons (4 lunar eclipses) occurring in 2014 - 2015. It’s called a tetrad. They are rare. When all 4 happen on Jewish Holy days, they are even rarer.

According to the Bible, lunar eclipses (blood moons) are signs regarding Israel. Solar eclipses are signs to the world at large. Most recent tetrads occurring on Jewish Holy days

1492-93
1948-49
1967-68
2014-15

The occurrence seems to be accelerating. The next tetrad after 2015 doesn’t occur for about 600 years. Can anyone identify what happened with Israel during the first 3 dates?

The Jewish Holy day lunar eclipses of the coming tetrad occur on:

9/28/15

In addition, this tetrad is interspersed with 2 solar eclipses. 4/29/14 and 3/20/15.

Not sure what the question was but a comets tail contains "debris" and when the Earth passes thru where a comets tail recently was there is a marked increase in "shooting stars". So if the Earth passes thru this comet's tail the show will be quite spectacular, assuming the comet survives it's trip around the Sun.

I am not buying the claim that the comet picked up companions in the Asteroid belt. The physics simply does not support the claim. The comet is traveling roughly perpendicular to the travel path of the asteroids. No way something a small as this comet is going to pick up any companions of note.

Many humans never left the 1370. Ya got religious nutbars all over the planet, all believing their own personal God is the only God...Of course if the Muslim was born in Louisiana or Colorado instead of Tehran, the Muslim would likely be a Christian or Catholic or whatever. Depending on where they were born, seems to dictate which God these people worship.

In any event, this planet has taken many substantial cataclysmic impacts in the past and it's only a matter of time until another major impact or planet changing/killing event occurs.

OK. But maybe he is only partially wrong. Maybe it's not the SUN that is fed by gas and dust, but the corona. That would explain why it is so much hotter than the surface of the Sun.

But the pieces that crack off and are blown off of Ison because of venting gas, what will the Solar winds do to them on the departing path?
Will they also get blown ahead of Ison, or will they trail behind?
Is it feasible that some of those pieces broken off of Ison could be quite large, or is it possible that with Ison's close path to the Sun, that they are so melted that they'd never be blown off (unlikely, I think)?
If Ison is over a mile in diameter, then some of those "broken off pieces" could be several hundred feet across, couldn't they?
Don't forget Missions to Comets: Stardust, Deep Impact that videoed at least 22 active jets blowing off material in chunks off of comet Tempel 1.

Not sure about 1492, except isn't that when Columbus sailed the ocean blue? 1948 Israel became a nation in one day. 1967 The six day war.

Of those four blood moons, it seems only the last one will be visible in Israel, in totality, and then just prior to sunrise.

They have no idea due to the fact much of the material/objects in that region are undetectable due to it’s size.
