Here, Jury just found a Utah Mormon doctor -- a former Lds church bishop -- guilty of murdering his wife...

Why don't you and Dan go to that thread & start defending that murderer because he's Mormon:

Jury finds Utah doctor guilty in wife's death in bathtub

Personally, Elsie, I'd argue that bigotry is a more precise definition.

It mattereth not how it is defined; the TACTIC is the same: an attempt to get the other fellow of target and into DEFENDING himself.

Do ANY of you "damned " SLC mormons reading reply #104, who has gotten any information from your church, that old B.Y. was:

1. Speaking the very words of GOD
2. Drunk
3. On peyote
4. REALLY upset at SOMEone
5. Or just running his mouth as a man: a mere mortal, prone to the slings and arrows that beset us all or do you
6. just accept the FACT that you are, truly, damned for not following your Scripture found in D&C 132:58-66?

You aren't the only one. Same category as racism, IMHO.

OTOH, they show the world who they really are . . . which is good. Imagine anybody saying that [fill in the name of almost any other group] aren't really people and then skating!

--------------------------------------------------

Speaking of "racism"....that's a subject that mormonism defenders really should avoid.....

In a June 1978 letter, the first presidency of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints proclaimed that “all worthy male members of the Church may be ordained to the priesthood without regard for race or color.” Men of African descent could now hold the priesthood....

The revelation may have lifted the ban, but it neither repudiated it nor apologized for it. “It doesn’t make a particle of difference,” proclaimed the Mormon apostle Bruce R. McConkie a few months later, “what anybody ever said about the Negro matter before the first day of June of this year, 1978.”

McConkie meant such words to encourage Mormons to embrace the new revelation, and he may have solemnly believed that it made the history of the priesthood ban irrelevant. But to many others around the country, statements of former church leaders about “the Negro matter” do, in fact, matter a great deal.

The church would benefit itself and its members — and one member in particular, the presumptive Republican presidential nominee — by formally repudiating the priesthood ban and the racist theories that accompanied it.

-SNIP- The priesthood ban had sweeping ecclesiastical consequences for black Mormons. They could not participate in the sacred ordinances, like the endowment ceremony (which prepares one for the afterlife) and sealings (which formally bind a family together), rites that Smith and Young taught were necessary to obtain celestial glory.

-SNIP-

Most Protestant denominations, however, gradually apologized for their past racism.

What would Jesus say? ---- Which Jesus, the Jesus I know, who said that he come not to destroy men but to save them,

or the "Mormon Jesus" that massacred multitudes by burying and drowning them? See 3 Nephi, Chapters 8 and 9

You have to understand the "Mormon Jesus" to understand the Mormon. "Mormon Jesus" is a killer. Not real conducive to grace.

Get back to those works of the flesh, pal, your Bishop has a list, and he's checking it twice.

What would Jesus say?

Maybe something like “The devil is in the details”?

Anyhow charges tend to zip back and forth in such cases faster than the eye can follow.

I don’t think tax exemptions even apply for other than nonprofit uses of church land. Whatever the church be it Methodist or Mormon.

Smith’s stuff is garbage and that’s just one little piece of it.

However it is the direct Christ that saves. We often get mud slinging wars between one church denomination and another about how pure your doctrine has to get before Christ will stoop to save you. And that puts the whole spiritual cart before the horse.

We often get mud slinging wars between one church denomination and another about how pure your doctrine has to get before Christ will stoop to save you. And that puts the whole spiritual cart before the horse.

First of all, let's finish that sentence of yours: ...it is the direct Christ that saves..."

Well, "saved" from what?

In this way, Mormonism isn't simply "another" Christian denomination...they don't say there are (one denomination among others)...
...and neither do Christians...
...so who would you be to come along and disagree both with Mormons and worldwide Christianity on that matter?

Unpacking Saved from What?

If you say to a Mormon: "You are saved from 'alienation' with Jesus..."

The response might be: "Well, hey...What? We were 'spirit bros' in the pre-existence! What do you mean 'alienated?'"

If you say to a Mormon: "You were saved from being in bondage to sin passed down from Adam to you."

The response might be: "What do you mean? All children are born perfect and stay that way until at least age 8."

If you say to a Mormon: "You were saved from the fear of death."

The response might be: "What's there to fear? Hey, everybody is resurrected and just about all of us go to one of three degrees of glory."

You see, it's kind of ludicrous to start with the "Good News" -- the "Gospel" -- with all Mormons. Because they don't exactly have a very good context of where to apply it other than a few areas...and in these areas, it's not always easy to convince them of their need.

The areas I am referencing include:
* ... freedom from religious ritualism;
* ...freedom from legalism;
* ...freedom from attempting to change God about who you are thru good works & perfectionism.

So, lots of "law" needs to go with the Gospel in approaching most Mormons. They need convincing that We humans need to be saved from...
...our own sin nature,
...sins emitting from our sin nature,
...death,
...the second death -- eternal death,
...the fear of death,
...bondage to Satan,
...darkness,
...this world,
...our own lostness, etc.

You are like the something like 90% of hell headed Christians who get it all backwards. Saved from what? How about saved TO what.

Reuniting with a close bond to God is what. From a lack of it, called sin and fallenness and various other things. And sure we can point out that the ultimate state of lack is to go to hell (or lake-of-fire). But then what. Call me simple minded: “All who call upon the Name of the Lord shall be saved.”

All else emanates from this. No Christian is going to have a 100% gospel 0% garbage manifestation in their life before leaving this mortal coil. None.

And it’s not until the salvation-TO situation has been attained in large enough measure that it gets tangible in your thinking, that you can even really sort out the salvation-FROM situation.

I’m more concerned about the idea of heaven as planets. That’s a distortion and invites the possibility of pseudo Christs that are demonic. But they won’t be a “little” different from the real Christ; they will be a LOT different. This is not like the Mormon who actually finds Christ and then finds that this Christ does not jibe at all with their church’s doctrine and so leaves to a saner congregation.

And about the planets... this is fundamentally un-heavenly. Heaven isn’t a gaggle of private outposts of varying privilege. It’s a huge sharing community (even though not all are equal). The gospel as we know it is a rehearsal of heavenly ethics. And it doesn’t command you to go live off by yourself. The planet stuff is another piece of Smith garbage.

Hey, I apologize if I sound like I’m really jumping down your throat brother. I know you left the Mormons. There are a jillion good reasons to leave them. But some are still Christians, although confused Christians.
