Obamacare Architect: Genetic "Lottery Winners" Have Been Paying An "Artificially Low Price"
Real Clear Politics ^ | Nov 13, 2013 | Staff

JONATHAN GRUBER, M.I.T.: Let’s start with understanding that we're not talking about the vast majority of Americans. This law is really leaving those with employer insurance, those with government insurance alone. We’re talking about a small minority of Americans that buy insurance on their own through the individual market.

CHUCK TODD: Still millions of people.

GRUBER: Exactly. It's 12 million people, about a third of which will end up paying more under this law. And that as you said in the introductions sort of the idea. We currently have a highly discriminatory system where if you’re sick, if you’ve been sick or [if] you’re going to get sick, you cannot get health insurance.

The only way to end that discriminatory system is to bring everyone into the system and pay one fair price. That means that the genetic winners, the lottery winners who've been paying an artificially low price because of this discrimination now will have to pay more in return. And that, by my estimate, is about four million people. In return, we'll have a fixed system where over 30 million people will now for the first time be able to access fairly price and guaranteed health insurance.

It should be manditory that clowns like Gruber be required to run a business based upon their own theories for a period of 5-10 years before foisting them on the rest of us. Given that they’d fail we’d never have their idiocy put into practice against the citizenry.

If I lop off an arm, do I qualify for disability checks?

Yes, but don't forget you're going to have to give it all back because you've just lost weight.

I was under the (apparently!) mistaken impression that genetics, alone, do not entirely account for one's state of health.

I thought that such factors as having a healthy lifestyle (no smoking, moderate drinking, moderate eating, exercise, etc.), having an intact family life, etc. - i.e., things which one can by all means influence - also played a role.

Guess I'm a Dummkopf.

Outright Marxist indeed.

Motivated by green jealousy, nothing more.

In the mind of Communists (er, “Marxists”) people who succeed are “fortunate”, didn’t deserve it, have an unfair advantage over everyone else. So they gotta be punished to level the playing field.

Never mind that people overcome small differences in IQ, physique, family circumstances, education all the time.

He thinks they’re cheating.

A former KGB agent - now working as a translator - told me once that under the Soviet system, anyone who stood out was hammered down. You didn’t want to look like you were going to do better then anyone else.

So they ended up with equal misery. Or rather unequal, since the Party people had quite a bit more.

And right back to reality: under Communism, all pigs are equal, but some pigs are more equal then others.

And that’s who Gruber is. An arrogant pig, who’s bent on making sure all the little piggys are equally miserable, but especially the ones who made the mistake of trying too hard in life.

Except for him and his buddies. Because you know, they know better for you, and so they deserve more.

Just another Soviet Apparatchiki.

Vonnegut was a pretty big liberal, but I think this goes to show how far today’s “liberals” have wandered into the wilderness.

Today's liberals are like the robotic communists under Stalin.

Vonnegut had a broad libertarian streak. "Player Piano" used another dysfunctional future to mock society's obsession with advanced college degrees, as well as portraying a mechanized war similar to our drones today.

"That means that the genetic winners, the lottery winners who've been paying an artificially low price because of this discrimination now will have to pay more in return."

It's now the position of MIT that gluttony, cigarette smoking, drug abuse, conscious decisions to ignore basic personal health guidelines, unprotected sex with hundreds of anonymous partners, prison incarceration and gang membership are genetic? Are they Mendelian dominant or recessive traits?

“As if diet and lifestyle didn’t play a part in health. Genetic lottery -— maybe you were born poor because your parents made bad choices.”

I understood they were talking about health (in terms of “genetic”), but they may as well be talking about race. Europeans are getting the bill as thpough they are still the colonial administrators of Nigeria and Mexico.

“Guess what? Kids of parents who make smart choices do better than kids of parents who make poor choices.”

That is why we have affirmative action, freebies, and such; a wrong-headed attempt to create an equal outcome. Along the race issue lines, urban governments see the “family” as the worst environment for the “golden ticket” bastards of the permanent underclass, and throw massive resources at before and after care programs, free breakfast and lunch programs, etc. to remove the children from the “welfare hive”.

Genetic "Lottery Winners"

Wow! Insist on teaching evolution and then get p.o'ed by "survival of the fittest". Modern technology runs counter to SotF by artificially prolonging lives of those who should've been bear food a long time ago. And now the rest have to pay for it.

Well, I guess we can't just promote having healthy genetics -- we know where that would lead!

The definition of the word insurance is pooled risk, i.e. you don’t take someone who is already sick or already crashed their car.

It isn't that you don't take them, but you risk-assess them and charge accordingly for their participation. Bad drivers pay more.

Jonathan Gruber is a professor at MIT. There aren't very many marginally intelligent professors at MIT. It's probably one of the highest concentrated collections of genetic lottery winners in America. I'd appreciate the good professor's judgement more, if he would live his egaliatian dream rather than inflicting it on others.

Gruber should relinquish his job at the prestigious MIT and relocate to a community college in Montgomery, Alabama or Compton, California. Why should those students be punished with inferior professors while such a keen intellect is such an advocate of mitigating the genetic lottery? MIT, likewise, should solicit the marginally intelligent professors from community colleges, in order to diversify their faculty. They need a lot more stupid students too.

Given Gruber's aversion to unequal treatment, there is no valid reason why those who are financially gifted should receive better instruction than those on the short end of life's lottery, or why the less intellectually gifted should be denied the benefit of an MIT degree.

they are not “genetic lottery winners” they are people who took care of themselves!

They did not run around sticking their pecker into every man bunghole they met and thus didn’t get AIDS.

They did not smoke crack

They stopped themselves from cramming moonpies in their mouths non-stop

They choose not to smoke

They choose to exercise

In other words, they made SMART decisions, which YOU Mr. President are not wanting to punish them for!

FU Mr. President!

Sure. Imagine what kind of world we would live in if people could actually live well by working hard and earning it! Why, the slackers would have no excuse for not doing the same!

What a bloodless little gorm. In retrospect, it says something about Mitt Romney that he collaborated with Gruber in MA—none of it good.

Then shouldn’t Jonathan, the President and I be paid the same “fair” wage?

I was thinking the same thing but I just forced Gruber to teach at Bunker Hill Community College and let him stay in Boston. Then some low paid teacher at Bunker Hill who looks like Robin Williams can replace Gruber at MIT. LOL!!!
