New GOP strategy on ObamaCare: Let it burn
Hot Air ^ | November 21, 2013 | Ed Morrissey

After the government shutdown over ObamaCare fizzled in mid-October, people wondered whether the GOP would try the same strategy again in early 2014 to force an end to the ACA. The Hill reports that the House and Senate Republican caucuses are now united in dumping that strategy. Instead, the GOP will simply allow ObamaCare to unfold as Democrats planned:

"...the GOP will simply allow ObamaCare to unfold as Democrats planned"

Excellent news. There is absolutely nothing the Republicans can do that will do more damage to the Democrats than simply standing aside and letting Obamacare work its 'magic' on the American people.

There is a strategy that is forming. It is sneaky but it is unfolding right before our eyes. I think if conservatives play this right, Obamacare can be defunded.

Here is the strategy. Force Reid to go nuclear on the judges. Then attack the 8 rat senators and force them to vote for repeal to save their butts next November.

This is the only time Republicans can get away with going after Reid for an up or down vote. Especially when you no longer need 60 votes. If he tables it, Reid is harming the nation. If it goes up or down, Obama will have to veto it.

the GOP should be ready to explain what alternatives they have in mind.

Let us hope that the GOP finds the strength of character to inform the people that the very best plan is for the federal government to get as far out of the health care business as possible.

Delaying it a year means nobody get to feel the pain prior to the election.

The Dems screwed up the timing on cancelling group insurance policies too. Per law, the cancellation notices will go out prior to the November midterm elections.

Not only that, there's a full year for our side to talk up the impending demise of employer supplied health insurance. By that time, there will be thousands of horror stories in the press about people who had their individual plans destroyed.

Can we say trapped rats?

"REPEAL....can happen but for the cowardly GOPe."

You think a repeal will pass an Obama veto requiring a 2/3 majority in the House and in the Senate?

" Deem it passed by senate. Pass in house and it’s done."

I didn't see "deem" anywhere in the constitution. I did see a presidential veto there, though. Can you "deem" a 2/3 override vote in both Houses, too?

MORONS!!

Nothing is burning except the Constitution and the last vestiges of LIBERTY in America.

If the House of Representatives do not DEFUND OBUNGHOLECARE and take back their Constitutional duty to control the power of the purse, then it's over.

Obungholecare is going to be instituted no matter what..... Answer me this you FR mental defects that sound like that drooling DEMONCRAT Kraut Kripple on Fox, how is Obunghole care going to be stopped?

How can so called informed “Conservatives” be this STUPID?

Staggers the imagination.

You are staggered by unreality.

The reality is the Republicans can do nothing. Several efforts were made but thwarted bu Dingy Harry.

The course described above results from the absence of raw political power.

There is something of a misconception about that. The bills for money appropriations must originate in the House but passed by the Senate.

What we have learned is that the Senate will not entertain any appropriations bills put forward by the current House .

Unless several Rat Senators die pretty soon, that situation is not going to change

The 'pubbies in the House lost the game immediately after regaining their majority in 2010.

When the Senate refused to address their first appropriation bill -- after not passing a budget for the previous two years -- the House should have recessed, gone home and awaited Senate action.

By not making the failure to produce a budget a Consitutional issue from Day One, they lost the initiative they'd gained in the election.

Get out front and fight. I know they can’t change this, but if they sit back and wait, there always the potential the Democrats can start to shift the blame. Get out and show the people there is a difference. Do you really see anything that gives you confidence the Republicans would eliminate this? Where are the Republicans cramming this mess down the Democrats throat? I don’t get paid the big bucks to sit in the Senate and play in the big leagues, but it seems to me they should be aggressively tying this around the Democrats necks so we can clear the field during the next election. Now is a great opportunity, people are overwhelmingly against this, they should be getting out a positive message about how they intend to remove this tyranny. You have to give people something to vote for, not just hope they vote against the next guy.

What we've learned is the Senate and the illegal alien in the White House are willing to shut down the government and go apoplectic unless they get their way. LET THEM.

The Repubikans should have never surrendered THIER CONSTITUTIONAL MANDATE to these DEMONCRAT terrorist tactics.

Exactly the right approach. Make sure to stake out the position that if he’s too incompetent to SELL insurance, he sure as hell can’t OPERATE the insurance business for the whole country. Single payer is not the solution for Obamacare.

History may be kind to Senator Cruz, but what abut the historians who write the history. They will be determined to destroy him, they way did the Kennedys’ friend Joe McCarthy.

RE :”If the House of Representatives do not DEFUND OBUNGHOLECARE and take back their Constitutional duty to control the power of the purse, then it's over.”

They already passed House repeals of it many times over,

It was already demonstrated that the House of Representatives cannot get Obama-care defunded for real (into law) unless the defund bill passes in the Senate and Obama signs it too.

If no budget is passed or separate appropriates get into law then Obama-care still stays funded, which is exactly what happened. We saw it happen, those who told us this were right.

Rush, Levin, Hannity, etc forgot to tell their listeners that critical fact and instead chose to enrage them, but now it was proved true.....Reid, Obama and Senate Dems would have to defund it.

One can ignore reality till he hits its brick wall.

“Do you really see anything that gives you confidence the Republicans would eliminate this? “

That’s a joke, right? What I fail to understand, is why, when the RINOs had complete control of the government, why then didn’t govern. Personally, I think it has to do with the fact that the GOPE has nothing by way of an agenda other than having the trappings of the office and being able to go to parties in DC. OTOH, right now, the GOP needs to not do anything that gives the RATS or the media any ammo to draw attention away from Obamacare. There will be a time, not far off where they will need to start leading ( if there is any way that they can do that with Boner and Bitch running their party) but not now while the crap is hitting the fan for the RATs. No one, can do anything to avoid what’s going to happen in the next 60 days. Any even oblique involvement will give the RATS unjust cover. If there was any real way to stop the train wreck, I’d say do it to save our citizens, but there just isn’t.

No, not now, no delays now: they had their chance. The second budget the House passed included a one year delay, but the ‘Rats shut down the government rather than pass it.

Now the “let it burn” strategy is optimal — it would have been good without the two House-passed budgets that Harry Reid wouldn’t let come to the Senate floor (the defund-budget and the delay-budget) — but now it’s just perfect because it makes the House GOP and Ted Cruz look prophetic (not that it takes any prophetic gift, just a passable understanding of economics, to know that Obamacare was going to be a disaster).

Touche! Thanks for bringing me back to reality, and I can't argue with your assessment of the GOPe. I guess I got caught up in wishful thinking.
