Washington (AFP) - A weary Barack Obama, eyelids heavy, predicted Friday that the restorative power of sleep and the sunshine of his native Hawaii would restore his wilting fortunes after a bleak year.
The US president began 2013 with a soaring inaugural address laying out an ambitious second term agenda, sensing a mandate for liberal transformation despite a joyless re-election campaign.
He ended it with a ponderous press conference, deflecting dire assessments of his prospects and gingerly testing an optimistic message for 2014: "We are poised to do really good things."
Second term presidencies are always tough, as exhaustion, unmet promises and fading political zeal humble exhausted administrations.
But Obama's prospects look especially cloudy.
His agenda is comprehensively jammed in Congress. Key initiatives like gun control foundered and Obama's approval ratings have plunged to record lows.
Meanwhile, his bond of trust with Americans has been compromised.

There never was a ‘bond of trust’ with this tyrant. It was all lies, subversion and Democrat Kabuki theater.
Half of us KNEW what he was; know WHAT he is. The other half don’t care as long as they get that government check or equivalent.
Our own Republican establishment betrayed us and gave up the fight for their own second-tier power, and their staples are lies and show votes.

Anytime I read anything about the administration, regardless of the bent, I have to check to see if it’s marked satire. This piece seems especially damming by faint praise. I like that. It seems that it’s the press who are waking from an all night high to the dry-mouthed slightly nauseous reality of a liberalism overdose.

News flash: We are weary too, have heavy eyelids and a cloudy future. Hawaii won’t help us at all. The only thing that will help us is a new President and repairing the massive damage done to our country by this “weary” Emperor.
