Sen. Mike Lee: Churches Should Not Be Forced to Perform Gay Marriage
Newsmax ^ | 12/28/2013 | Audrey Hudson

Sen. Mike Lee says a bill he introduced would prevent the Internal Revenue Service from denying tax-exempt status to any person or group that refuses to perform gay marriages.

"What we're talking about here is the freedom of religious belief, the freedom of a church, for example, to adhere to its own religious doctrine so that it cannot be discriminated against by the government," the Utah Republican said in an interview with Newsmax.

Lee said the federal government's failure to protect religious liberty — citing Obamacare mandates for contraceptives and abortion-inducing drugs — was a key motivation for him to introduce the "Marriage and Religious Freedom Act," which protects clergy from being punished if they refuse to perform gay marriages.

"This is something that the overwhelming majority of Americans would support and the overwhelming majority of Americans would be disappointed if they discovered Congress would be unwilling to pass something like this," Lee said.

Lee's bill was introduced before Congress recessed for the holidays. It has the support of Republican Sens. James Inhofe of Oklahoma, Marco Rubio of Florida, and Lindsey Graham of South Carolina. A bipartisan companion measure in the House is sponsored by Republican Reps. Raul Labrador of Idaho and Chris Smith of New Jersey, as well as Democrats Dan Lipinski of Illinois and Mike McIntyre of North Carolina.

So Mother Theresa’s monetary offerings to God should go, via the government, to Planned Parenthood to butcher babies? Like God is tithing to demons?

Bread and circuses, for most of the sponsors (not Lee).

Most of these guys know they just need to judge to throw it out on “Constitutional” grounds. That way, they can say they supported it, but couldn't do anything about it because of those darned judges.

How many in the GOP were praying to their golden calves that the Supreme Court would have made gay marriage the law of the land? We were bombarded with stories about this from Conservative publications.

I wonder if the Christie worshipers will even let this come to a vote, seeing as how they really don't want gay issues in the news during the GOP Primaries. After all, Christie just sicked the law on Christian Groups in NJ who wanted to minister to homosexuals. Not to mention gay marriage became the law of NJ thanks to him (in part).

Lee is authentic. Most of these guys are putting on a show for election season.

Dearly beloved, we are gathered here today to join this man and this other man together in the bounds of an unholy union sanctioned by a fascist government and condemned in no uncertain terms by the Almighty God.

By their carnal union today they have chosen to spit in the face of God and all that is Holy and when this ceremony has been concluded this man and this other man will have sealed their eternal fate into the hands of an Angry God who will most assuredly throw them both into the fires of eternal damnation where the worm dieth not.

Now Bruce, do you take Roger to be your lawfully wedded spouse and partner in this ceremonial Blasphemy against the Holy Spirit, to have and to hold until one of you or the other enters into the gates of a fiery Hell?

That’s all good if you are Roman Catholic. However many gays are not.

I have a news flash for you, Mike Lee.

I will not perform a gay marriage wedding. Ever. Period.

You and all your government cohorts cannot force me to do that. Ever. Period.

Amendment #1 guarantees that. But what backs the Guarantee? My faith. I answer to a higher power than the US government.

So far as the individual’s income, let’s get rid of the income tax, repeal the 16th, and go to straight sales tax. Then deductions won’t matter.

Heck, I'd be fine with a flat-rate income-tax — no deductions, no credits, no exemptions, no exceptions,

abortion

Then why hasn't the Catholic church publicly excommunicates Nancy Pelosi?
The lack of church discipline on "influential people" seriously undermines the church's claim to [moral] authority.

I feel that if a law needs to be involved at all, and government is involved, whether for the affirmative or negative, the battle is already lost, and the secularists have won - because we are saying that government shall set the bounds of religious behavior.

Bingo!
Some people call me pro-homosexual when I say that the real front isn't in law and therefore consider [federal] marriage laws to be a mistake.
(The real problem is Sin, and the real solution to that problem is Jesus.)

It’s up to the individual Bishop where she lives to do this.

Basically she has already excommunicated herself....so not to worry.

I think that churches should be required to preform gay marriages, with so many liberals in all of the churches voting for a new fascist America let it come home to their own front yard, maybe some conservative fence sitters will get off their duffs.

Doesn’t matter what a “bill” says. Doesn’t even matter what a “constitutional amendment” says. The courts can just throw them out if they offend elite sensibilities. So why do we even waste the time?

I'll try to copy/paste you a copy of the traditional wedding service for re-writing. Then we'll see if we can make it go viral.

A flat rate will still always raise the specter of government forcing religion to give out of the offering plate.

What may be coming is the end of church marriages entirely. The American people will do anything in the false mantra of “fairness”.
