Candy Crowley: If I’m Unemployed or on Minimum Wage, ‘Why Would I Become Republican?’

On CNN’s State of the Union Sunday, host Candy Crowley asked a question of Gov. Scott Walker (R-Wisc.) that should offend people on both sides of the aisle.

“If I am an unemployed American…or if I am a minimum wage worker… why would I become a Republican?” (video follows with transcript and commentary):

(video link)

CANDY CROWLEY: If I am an unemployed American and I hear from Republicans that, “Yeah, you know, we should go ahead and do that provided we do the following three things,” and it’s a caveat approval of extending those [unemployment] benefits, or if I am a minimum wage worker and I find, I see Republicans who say, “You know what? It's artificial, it messes with the marketplace, it might mean some teens can't get into the job market,” why would I become a Republican? How do you message that in any way to reach out to those who are disinclined to sign up for the Republican Party?

Doesn’t Crowley know that she indicted the Democratic Party as one that is basically buying votes?

So someone that’s currently unemployed or on minimum wage must support politicians that promote policies that hurt the very job creation that might lead to them having better lives?

And if Republicans aren’t willing to support such failed policies, it behooves such an individual to be a Democrat thereby potentially condemning him or herself to mediocrity and possibly lifetime government dependence?

Clearly, Crowley has forgotten that in 1980, a great deal of unemployed and minimum wage workers voted for Ronald Reagan because they realized Democratic policies weren't helping them.

As you would expect, Walker was ready for Crowley’s socialist view, and expertly countered it: . .

Unemployment Benefits...
Contradiction in terms.
a crutch,a bandage, a patch..
A Benefit?
DoubleSpeak.
When I hear the word Benefit, I think of an incentive offered by an employer, built into a competitive salary, designed to attract the best potential employees, and encourage loyalty and hard, honest work from those hired.

There is no Real Benefit in being unemployed

Walker’s comeback was great; then, Candy rebutted...did Walker have a chance to say anything else?

If not, lesson learned is you have to ASSUME as the interviewee, that the interviewer will have the last word, so you have to rebut what you KNOW they will say when you are done.

When I worked in high school, I had a sub-minimum wage job. (Now that I'm old and self-employed, I often work not just for a sub-minimum wage, but for net sub-zero considering business expenses. Must be nice to be guaranteed a paycheck, like the Kool-Aid drinking Ms. Crowley!)

(I'm not a Republican, but I'd volunteer to be a hostage for Al-Qaeda before I'd ever vote for one of today's Democrats.)

In the same way that people get Gov't handouts, food stamps, welfare vote Dem. People take from others, and will use Gov't to do that.

Dunno why the hate, but she is correct. In the same way a person who runs on cutting entitlements won't get much support from any party.

I’m surprised that someone with a fat-and-ugly problem like she has even HAS a job where people have to look at her.

When I first came to this country I was told that "The Republican party are for the rich, the Democrats for the poor."
Later I learned that it would be more accurate to say: "The Republican party are for those who want to be rich, the Democrats for those who wish to stay poor."

(That was of course before the Republicans were watered down with almost-Democrats, now it does not matter much who you vote for, the REAL decisions are made elsewhere.)

Anyway toots, you are not going to get rich on government handouts, unless you are in the privileged group doing the handout.

I have no job and I have never asked for government benefits either.

Yes, I would abolish minimum wage (or lower it a lot) and end most welfare programs in a heartbeat. Although I know it can’t be done that fast probably.

Candy Crowley: If I’m Unemployed or on Minimum Wage, ‘Why Would I Become Republican?’

DUH/ Because you could then vote for a Republican to replace the assclowns that have destroyed our economy and jobs.
Sometimes the ignorance of these people is amazing!

The problem is, the GOP isn’t for working Americans either.

Both parties are eliminating American jobs.

GOP get with is. The first party to support American jobs in the future, will win an unbeatable landslide well into the future.

I’m serious. I understand you have extensive interests in Chinese companies, and you made a great deal from them.

Unfortunately, China owns those companies and they are becoming a huge liability for America.

We need American jobs back.

GOP stand up and support American jobs. Use your interests in the government to enact some universal import tariffs, and watch America’s economy take back off.

I understand why to went to China. I really, so did I in fact.

But economic reality is changing.

Bring US jobs back to America.

“If I am an unemployed American…or if I am a minimum wage worker… why would I become a Republican?”

Republicans believe that:

1) people are not helpless
2) Self-sufficiency is a virtue
3) parasites who can not survive without taking the undeserved, the unearned, and something for nothing are not a value to society

Because if you are unemployed or working for minimum wage, it is directly because of the agenda and policies of the democrat party... you ignorant and corrupt slut for satan.

Maybe because they realize they are unemployed because of Democrat policies?

In Crowley's case, there is no reason to become a Republican .. but another more principled person would have no choice to become a conservative.
