I imagine MOST Senators live in the areas surrounding D.C. Some of the wealthier ones may still own homes in their 'home states', but with Congress a year round enterprise, it only makes sense to live in the D.C. area.
This objection seems like thin gruel to me.

Roberts was from Topeka and Oskaloosa, his father was a big wig in the Kansas Republican Party. When he graduated from Kansas in 1957 he went into the Marines and when he got out, he went to Arizona to work as a journalist. So, he hasnt really lived in our fair state since 1957.
Actually, he's a K-State grad.

I was on an airplane with Senator Grassley yesterday. He had a cold from shoveling snow at his farm. Iowan through and through.

See my post #57, I was typing to fast. I didn’t mean to insult the man.

Roberts is like the typical long term Senator. He no longer represents his state in Washington DC, but represents Washington DC in his state.

I’ve been to Harkin’s place in the Bahama’s. It’s nice, but not lavish, he bought it before they started building the castles by the sea. He probably spends more time on Elbow Cay that he does in Iowa.

Jerry Moran lives in Manhattan (KS), as in lives there. He family lives there, his kids go to school there, he lives there. He travels to Washington to conduct business in the Senate. Not fashionable these days, but how it ought to be.
To: DoodleDawg
Roberts He should buy some property on "the lake" in Kansas, and park his trailer there.

A real country club republican!

He did stand with Cruz on all three votes. Even if he were posturing, he did surpass Conservatives such as McConnell...

At some point they become citizens of Washington. At that point, they no longer represent the people “back home.”

He visits Oregon every now and then. Give him a break, he doesn't have a private air force jet to fly him home like Pelosi did.

This is welcome news for “Obama’s cousin” in maybe the silliest “tea party challenge” to a “RINO” (at least since Cheney’s daughter quit the race in WY).

From an anti-Pat Roberts freeper:
"I would prefer to have a Senator who knows his state, spends some time in it, represents the conservative political preferences of Kansas voters, and isnt Washington beltway pol. Roberts doesnt qualify on any of those counts."
Of course, when His Holiness The Great and Powerful Levin was pimping Liz Cheney's candidacy, they argued the exact opposite. The guy who actually knows his state, spends time in it, and represented the conservative political preferences of Wyoming voters "had to go" and be replaced with a celebrity Senator from inside the Washington beltway who hasn't been to state since she was 12.
One wonders if Levin has some great scholarly constitutional reason why this "rule" applies in Kansas but not Wyoming. ;-)

Why in the dickens do I keep running into articles that need translation? I have no idea what the above means. It does sound like he's leasing a kidney or something, doesn't it?
To: Impy; BillyBoy; fieldmarshaldj
That headline (and most of the article) are nothing but liberal wishful thinking. Roberts said nothing of the sort.

At some point they become citizens of Washington. At that point, they no longer represent the people back home. On the other hand I've been to Dodge City and I can't blame him for not wanting to spend any more time than he has to there.
