Reeeeeelly?

And just him practical would it be for him to “live” in the state ?

By your demand and standard what amount of time should he spend in his home state that would satisfy you?

Consider the practicalies of living in DC:
He rubs shoulders with others of like mind

He rubs shoulders with those who have an interest in your state

He can horse trade to get things for your state or something on terms more acceptable.

He can influence companies to invest and expand in your state.

There are 534 representatives in the congress and he needs to rub shoulders with them and even have the occassional drink with them.

The best part is he can reconcile bills sent up through the house.

Even better: “he can vote on bills or against treaties but, he must be present as the constitution calls for”.

These guys are in session 110-120 days per year.

They visit other states enticing business to move to yours and take over seas junkets to let our troops know we care.

They even take trips for fact finding, to learn about some program or process that would benefit your state.

But you need him to spend how many days in KS and he’s an allright guy????

Don’t you want him to work for his $175,000 salary?

Thank you for not including me on your post. What were you thinking?

I was unaware that Mark Levin was a resident of Kansas. His opinion of the Wyoming Senate race is of little interest to me in regards to Senator Roberts. How do we know what Levin thinks of Roberts? Is he promoting Wolf? If he is, I will thank him, certainly he has identified the Potemkin Village that is Senator Roberts voting record.

I am not some Freeper. I have a username and I would appreciate knowing when you choose to speak behind my back.

Pretty common. If I remember right, for years Ed Markey’s “residence” in his district was the couch in his mom’s house. By the time he ran for Senate he owned the house — maybe he inherited it — so residency wasn’t as big an issue (though there was some argument about whether he was ever actually there).

So, is there any proof that "Barack Obama's conservative cousin" will be as a reliably conservative vote in the Senate as Pat Roberts ALREADY is

Where you come from, his vote may indeed be "reliably conservative". But, down here in Kansas it is not. He is a Northern Virginia Republican and votes with his Northern Virginia constituents. Except in an election year, of course.

RE “If you are making fun of Mark Levin, that is shameful. That guy is working his ass off to try to save America. If you are making light of those who accept uncritically his every word, what you say is somewhat amusing. Bob”

Only the Shadow knows.

Therein lies the problem. Our elected representatives no longer represent us, they represent the interests of the Federal elite and those willing to spend the money to lobby, influence and bribe them to bend to their will. It’s corrupt.

I prefer for my Senators to live in Kansas. Call me Old Fashioned.

That is neither reasonable nor practical.

Call me old fashioned but, when I pay a guy he better show up for his job.

Exactly, and a very big part of his job is in Kansas. The Senate normally operates three days a week. Airlines operate frequently between DCA and MCI. I was on one of those flights every week for about four years. Sunday, Monday or Friday, Saturday. Ran into Senator Brownback frequently and others in the Kansas delegation, Missouri side too, include Eldridge Cleaver (Dem Crook, Kansas City). Never saw Roberts.

I get you now.

But, do you really want him to rack up a bill every week and come home?

Do you understand the complexities of having two homes?

You need clothes. Of course you’ll need a car or two at each home. The cars need to be fueled and maintained .

Food needs to be stocked. Houses need to be cleaned.

Dusted and vacuumed.

Gotta keep the lights, water and garbage going.

Gotta take the garbage to the curb or just take it out and that means perfectly good food gets tossed, as it will go bad before you return .

Linens need to be changed.

Easy if you can afford staff at both places but, he ain’t staffing two places on a measley $175k.

Good you did it Every week for 4 years.

I’m sure stayed in home or apartment with others.doing the same thing .

Lots of people here in the bay area do that as well.

But, it sounds like the guy is never, ever in town, has no constituent meetings in his district whatsoever and is unavailable.

Is that right?

Hell, I see Nancy Pelosi a couple times a year and we pretend were drinking beer.

Feinstein is around too.

Heck, I run into our Congress Critters at events as well.

Mike Honda is all over town at events such as Susan Komen Cancer Walk every year.

If you’re guy ain’t doing that then retire that gold bricker.

Seems like he is past his expiration date anyway.

Cry me a river.

BTW, he doesn’t pay for those plane tickets home. You do know that, don’t you.

I certainly do know the “complexities” of having two homes. I spent 25 years in the military. Way of life and I wasn’t making what a Senator makes.

Pelosi doesn’t.

OMG, Vendome, I do not believe you said what you said. You think it is more important for a Congressman or Senator to stay in Washington and “rub shoulders” with other politicians than to be in their home District or home State having dialogue with their constituents. Holy crap! If you would not make statements like that, people would not know just how ignorant you really are.

OK FReepers; now you know just one reason why this nation is going to hell in a hand-basket. This newbie is confused. Would a person with this mind-set be considered a troll here on FR?

Don’t take it personal centurian316. The Roberts backers here on FR are the most willfully ignorant people I’ve seen in the short time I’ve been coming to this website. That crusty, old fart, Roberts, must have some dirt on a lot of people for them to defend him so vehemently.

I think that people just think that he is doing a great job for them because he tells them so. He’s never really had a competitive race since he was anointed into the Sebelius seat in the 1st District. He’s not a “bad” Senator, but Kansas ought to have better and we ought to demand it. He seems to want another term because life is comfortable for him. If he does win (likely), you can bet that he will a rarer sight in Kansas than a wild Polar Bear.

Pretty sure I didn’t say that but, if you want to infer something out of context.

I see my own senators and congress critters here
in the bay area.

I expect to seem them when they are outof session.

It seems like a few of you are expecting the guy to fly home every weekend.

I think that’s a bit much.

You don’t think they should rub shoulders?

How are they suppose to horse trade?

It’s not like they punch a time clock. They work executive hours.

However, if this isn’t coming home and hanging out with his peeps he should be fired.

I see Mike Honda at the cancer walk every year.

Sure he’s a democrat. I can’t change but, he lends his name to an important event and is a pretty funny guy.

Same with Pelosi and Feinstein. They are in the community at events and even have constituent events.

I sure as hell don’t expect them to fly home every weekend year

That would be nuts and so damned time consuming.

A certain vice president was in his town almost every night and weekend but, Centerville, DE is just a commute to DC.

With planes you never know who are going to sit next to. 1st class solves some of that but it’s not cheap.

Planes take off whenever. they want you at the airport 90 to 2 hours before a flight.

Then you have to get a car, get your car or grab a taxi to get home

If this guy isn’t coming home out of session like during spring summer and Christmas break dump him.

Pretty sure I said that somewhere up thread

Personally, I’m more stunned about two more changes to this asinine law that liberals said we couldn’t change it because we’re racist.

Now the King has decreed another exemption and it seems we ate being told, again, “It’s the King’s wishes you refrain from saying anything that might besmirch his good name on his paper”

This senator stuff is penny ante compared to the lawlesness we are experiencing at an ever voracious and rapacious givernmint it

Yeah, I wrote givernmint.

They take from the producer and give something not earned or entitled tosome schmuck who will suck at the teet of those who are self determined, all the while being to lazh wipe their own asses and live a life of envy and slothfullness.

Your government is actually proposing laziness as the new american ideal.

You also cant talk aboit ObamaCare® as part of the reasoning why hiring practices and HR requirements to keep a company in the black so it can continue to produce goods and services keeping people employeed

RE :”I am going to assume that you are NOT a knuckle head.”

I been called much worse here but a few or more.
If it didn't happen from time to time I would think I was irrelevant.
