Iranian student burns himself to death with Molotov cocktails he had stockpiled inside his room

A Georgia Tech graduate student who set himself on fire while apparently experimenting with bomb-making elements in his apartment last month has died, officials confirmed Thursday.

Saamer Akhshabi, an Iranian national, had burns on more than 90 percent of his body following the February 4 explosion in his apartment near the university, where Akhshabi was studying in the College of Computing.

Law enforcement officials investigating the case found in Akhshabi's apartment an apparent Molotov Cocktail and multiple plastic bottles filled with gasoline and kerosene.

Following the explosion, 26-year-old Akhshabi was taken in critical condition to Grady Memorial Hospital in Atlanta, where he died on Thursday.

'We have worked closely with other law enforcement agencies during the investigation of this tragic incident,' Robert Connolly, interim police chief for Georgia Tech, said in an emailed statement to the Atlanta Journal-Constitution. 'The FBI has relayed that, to date, they have not developed any information or evidence indicating criminal intent in this investigation.'

Law enforcement officials determined that Akhshabi wasn't a threat to the Georgia Tech community, but it remains unclear what he planned to do with the explosive material found in his apartment.

Burned himself to death in a bad case of sudden jihad syndrome. I’m ashamed that this man sullied my alma mater Georgia Tech. Good riddance!

Thank God he’s gone and that innocent Americans were not among his future victims.

He’s not going to get his promised 72 virgins. He’s going straight to hell! I hoped he packed lightly!

Good riddance to that Islamic America-hating piece of scum.

Heck, I keep a couple small Coleman camping size propane bottles in my house and get a bit nervous - anyone know how long the shelf life is on those seals?

Two or three of them must be 12 yrs old or more.

Law enforcement officials are morons if they believe that.

That's a real good trick there, reading his mind and deducing he had NO intention of harming the GT community, or anyone else for that matter. Real good work there LEOs.

The truth is that GT's undergraduate and graduate programs are infested with way too many foreign students, many from countries that grow terrorists. If you couple this amazing deduction with the almost weekly occurrences of students being robbed or worse (perps are never caught!), it give you a very uneasy sense about just what their priorities are.

Isn’t that an astonishing statement? It’s pure political correctness. This won’t change even if we get a more sane president. The agents are trained this way and it runs through everything they see, do and hear. My company had posters reading “Strength and joy through diversity.” The fact that these were a dead theft from Nazi Germany and Soviet era propaganda was not even noticed. “Strength and joy through victory” in Germany and “Strength and joy through work” in Soviet Russia.

When it is this obvious, I am having trouble believing it is because they are incompetent or dumb; more likely this Islamist loving Regime is covering for one of their own. There will be a second of commemoration as one of their own goes off for his reward of 72 camels.

plastic bottles filled with gasoline and kerosene

not a good idea to store gas in plastic bottles. I remember back during the Carter gas shortage when I was living is a small town in rural GA, some local geniuses were storing gas in plastic milk jugs in their garage. The garage also was the location of the water heater (you can see what's coming) enough fuel permeated the plastic or escaped past the lids to allow a vapor trail to head to the water heater and ignite which of course ignited the stockpile and burned their (rented) house down. At the time the local news was all weepy eyed about the retards who "lost everything" but I don't remember a single word about the landlord who lost his house due to those morons.

When I heard the extent of his injuries I knew he was dead meat. He lasted about a week longer than I thought he would.

I just love when justice happens spontaneously.

He did not carry out his plans, no one got hurt, and he saved taxpayers tons of money in court and imprisonment costs.

Low cost justice!

remains unclear what he planned to do with the explosive material found in his apartment. Law enforcement officials are morons if they believe that.

A couple of things: first gasoline and kerosene are not "explosive materials" They are flammable materials. Typical law enforcement bullpucky that never gets challenged by the state worshipping media, and second, it is literally true it is unclear what he intended, He might have wanted to set fire to a dorm or set fire to classroom or set fire to a research lab or set fire to something else entirely. So it is unclear what he wanted to ignite and when he planned to ignite it. More PC law enforcement BS.

Actually, the Nazi slogan was “Strength through Joy” (Kraft durch Freude), which had an interesting connection to the development of the Volkswagen. I don’t know of a Soviet slogan referring to strength and joy together.

If your company really had the posters you mention, it would seem that someone was having a crass and stupid joke, or had Nazi sympathies. About the only worse motivational poster would be one that referred to both work and freedom.

We were recently without power for 25 hours this winter and used our Coleman stove with that little bottle of propane that had to be 10 years old. No problem. We had it stored in the garage so the bottles look brand new. We expect ours to last forever as long as they don’t have a leak and are stored safely.

Thanks!

I have a couple propane stoves, including one that just screws on top of the bottles. Has a plastice base to hold the bottle so it doesn’t fall over - I use that one for stir-fry because no one can do stir fry right on an electric stove.

Also have about 4 of the single-mantle lights that go on top. Those are great when the power goes out.

And what collection would be complete without the attachment that lets you refill the small bottles from the 5 gallon ones?

Still, one time I was messing with a propane heater and it went POOF! and I lost half the hair on my arms and face...
I treat that stuff with respect!

Our universities don’t care who comes from Muslim countries to attack our own as long as they have the cash to enroll. It’s time someone investigates the admissions offices of our institutions.
