Men are supposed to treat animals with a modicum of respect before they kill them and eat them. I don’t think this is as much a liberal versus conservative issue as it is a humanitarian issue.

Caging chickens 24 hours a day for their entire lives, just doesn’t seem to me to be the way that God intended that these creatures be treated. God gave men Men stewardship over the beasts of the field, but that does not give men the moral right to abuse them.

Yes the cost of eggs has gone up, but it never affected me because I always bought cage free eggs. And guess what, the price of cage free eggs has gone down!

I agree with you there. Why do we allow the liberals to take the high road in matters such as this? No conservative that I know would go for animals being abused in any way and the idea of chickens being cooped up in a cage their entire lives just so that they can produce eggs more efficiently sickens me.

Chicken are food, don’t name your food, don’t cuddle your food, don’t play with your food. Eat your food, chicken is food.

It is not just “eggs” that are higher due to CA.

Have you recently bought a simple plastic gas can? CARB gas cans are very expensive, and I cannot see a reason for them to be this complicated. It is all BS!

I agree. God didn’t tell us to exploit the Earth and its animals without care. We are caretakers.
I don’t want to sound like a CTer but do all the anti-biotics and hormones given chickens and other animals account for the rise in things like an allergic reactions to peanuts?

Pay for your animal rights crap but don’t force it on everyone else!!

Chickens for eggs or meat are nothing but food machines!!

Nothing but cage free organic for me. I can afford it and prefer the taste, color and avoidance of synthetic compounds.

I also believe we have a moral duty to ensure animals are not abused.

But if it were an issue of whether somebody would literally starve if hens were not cooped up in egg factories, I would reconsider my position.

I don't think that's the case here.

And CA is not forcing a Missouri farmer to conform to CA rules. That farmer is free to sell his eggs in any other state, all of which have rules too.

I know a lot of people disagree, I just wanted to state my opinion. I'll not get into an argument.

I agree, there has to be some consideration for the animal’s living conditions.

+1. I’m okay with it.

Eggs, Milk, 2 rashers and a piece of toast, Apple and 1/2 a sandwich, 4 oz lean meat, green leafy vegetable.

$9 for a healthy food day. X 4 makes it $36 per day for a family of 4. $252 a week for rouglhy $1000 per month for a family of 4. Working with a tight budget and trying to maintain healthy eating.

with a %20 increase in eggs ... increases the monthly expense by $67.

Now will come out all the comments from those who call themselves ‘conservatives’ on how if you are concerned with the animals quality of life you are a ‘animal rights’ advocate.
‘A righteous man regardeth the life of his beast, but the tender mercies of the wicked are cruel (Pr.12:10)
Many ‘conservatives’ confuse cruelty with strength.

Nor does our concern about those creatures give us the moral right to control those who do not share those concerns.

You speak the truth. For similar reasons, we don’t eat Veal anymore either. I am not a Peta radical, but “man” does have a moral obligation to treat animals decently.

We have a few in the church who raise their own and at least one who has enough hens that he supplies eggs for many families in the church. They seem to prefer the farm raised, chicken yard eggs, and the truth be told his prices are just slightly above the grocery.

So, following that grand capitalist theory of “never regulate what folks can make on their own”, I suspect a lot lot lot of people will just start growing their own. Sounds like a good time to invest in the little chicks.

They’ll then have to pass ordinances banning chickens except in places they approve. By then, though, the commercial flock will be considerable smaller, and that will cause the price to explode, and that will then violate that capitalist dictum, “don’t expect high prices for easily obtained items to lower demand or entrepreneurial spirit.”

They’ll have people raising chickens in their basements. That will lead to “Chicken Police” and a “War Against Eggs”.

ATF will become ATFE.

Then Chicken Cartels will rule Mexico, and Chicken Shit will rule Washington.

And eventually everyone will finally realize that this is really, really stupid.

Maximum production means an animals physiology is normal. Does the concept of bio security hold any meaning for you. I can tell by your statement you have never had to make a livin in production Ag.

Dang, I thought DU had hijacked this thread, sure enough looks like they did.

If we spent as much time worrying about the babies we are killing, as we do worrying about chickens, maybe we wouldn't have time to worry about where the chicken drops her eggs.

Does anyone worry about the overcrowding of worms in the worm farms?

I must confess I never had veal until someone told me about the controversial manner in which the animals were raised; it was delicious, but not something I’d normally order (I like other things better). I just had to know...
