Nevada ranching family claims victory as government releases cattle (excellent reporting)

BUNKERVILLE, Nevada (Reuters) - U.S. officials ended a stand-off with hundreds of armed protesters in the Nevada desert on Saturday, calling off the government's roundup of cattle it said were illegally grazing on federal land and giving about 300 animals back to the rancher who owned them.

The dispute less than 80 miles northeast of Las Vegas between rancher Cliven Bundy and the U.S. Bureau of Land Management had simmered for days. Bundy had stopped paying fees for grazing his cattle on the government land and officials said he had ignored court orders.

Anti-government groups, right-wing politicians and gun-rights activists camped around Bundy's ranch to support him in a standoff that tapped into long-simmering anger in Nevada and other Western states, where vast tracts of land are owned and governed by federal agencies.

IMHO this is some very good reporting on what occurred and very little writer's bias can be observed.

""The sovereign militias are ruling the day," said Rob Mrowka, senior scientist with the Center for Biological Diversity. "Now that this precedent has been set and they're emboldened by the government's capitulation, what's to stop them from applying the same tactics and threats elsewhere?"

That's the point, Silly Goose.

Power can be projected both ways.

It looks like the BLT SWAT boys got all dressed up for nothing. No “hut, hut, huts” this time boys. You can go back to polishing your bullets now.

How many more hours before SPLC is sending out fund-raising letters citing Bundy, et al. as dangerous racists, xenophobes, homophobes . . . .

Soooo mysterious the lightning-fast behavioral change occaisioned by injecting the name Harry Reid into the equation, eh?

Hey:

I’m SURE it has nothing to do with the Mid-terms..!!!

Right...?

Roger Taylor, retired district manager with the Bureau of Land Management in Arizona, also said the agency's decision to release the cattle will have repercussions. "The (agency) is going to be in a worse situation where they will have a much more difficult time getting those cattle off the land and getting Bundy in compliance with regulations," he said.

What's Mr. Roger Taylor's contact information?

Are we sure he's in compliance?

So the way I understand it is that his family was using the land for many years before the feds got concerned about this tortoise.

They decide it’s endangered so then they start fining him? If that’s the case, the feds can do this to any of us. They can ruin our businesses and take our property. All they have to do is decide a rat, mouse, snail, or turtle is endangered. They can then start fining us and drive us out of home and/or business? That’s crazy.

The Federal government never retreats. Anyone who thinks they are through with this is an idiot.

From Drudge:

Backdown Comes Hours After Reid/China Land Grab Report...
http://www.infowars.com/feds-back-down-from-bundy-siege-after-infowars-expose-of-chinese-land-grab/

We can thank those FReepers who did their homework to help the Bundys. And we can also thank Alex Jones and his organization for publishing that research.

To me it seems like we dodged a bullet again. The first being America getting publicly involved in Syria helping out the Muslim Brotherhood. John F’ing Kerry screwed that one up all by himself.

They’ve been using the land for some 140 years.

It's important for the entire country to understand those boys got run out of town by superior firepower.

I'm convinced by the result that the County and State LEO told the Feds: "You're on your own!"

And they freaked out. Pissed theirselves.

Don’t forget the non-indigenous smelt in California preventing the San Joaquin valley getting adequate water allotments for irrigation during these drought years. The government is out of control.

Is this a picture of a federal agent during the Bundy standoff or a generic photo?

The bureau said Cliven Bundy still owes taxpayers more than $1 million . . . .

How many times will that be repeated by employees of the MSM for ever and ever?

I forgive the man -- even if there is a legitimate reason for his paying the federal government.

His contribution to America is hundreds of times more valuable.. though not quite equal to the dollars spent on the Obamas' parties, vacations, weekend travels . . . .
