MeTV is replaying those shows on Sundays, man those scripts are stupid.

I remember when that show came on in early 1970s we had no cable TV and only four TV channels, mostly network TV (3 networks), to choose from.

Alice was a typical stupid character.

Saw her as a kid at the Cherry County Playhouse in Traverse City before her Brady Bunch days. Really quite a good actress

I never watched Brady Bunch. But I do remember her as Shultzy on the bob cummings show in the 1950s.

My TV experience back then was like yours - only a few channels.

That sort of experience may return in the near future if people keep cutting the cord.

Me, I’m perfectly happy getting 5-6 basic channels over-the-air for the few things I want to watch.

I was 5 or 6 years old when I first saw her on Love That Bob. She played Schultzy his secretary. Launched careers for Dwayne Hickman too. Jeeez, I’m the only one here on FR who remembers the show?

Sorry - while even I find it hard to believe, that one was before my time. LOL

When was it on? I probably would have remembered it if it went into reruns

That's funny. I grew up in CT, where I was able to receive stations from Hartford, New Haven, New Britain and Waterbury, but also NYC, Newark, NJ, and Springfield, MA.
For some reason the NET (National Educational Television, later known as PBS) flagship channel 13 was based in Newark, NJ. But in CT, we were barraged with NET/PBS stations.

3 -- CBS -- WTIC Hartford
8 -- ABC -- WNHC New Haven
18-- IND -- WHCT Hartford
20-- NBC -- WATR Waterbury (part time channel)
24-- PBS -- WEDH Hartford 30-- NBC -- WHNB New Britain (repeaters at 59 West Haven, and 79 Torrington)

49-- PBS -- WEDW Bridgeport
53-- PBS -- WEDN Norwich
71/65-- PBS -- WEDY New Haven

WEDH--24, by the way, was VERY high powered for a UHF station, with a much stronger signal than NBC affiliate Channel 30.

RE :”My TV experience back then was like yours - only a few channels.”

Small towns and cities had just the four network channels : ABC, CBS, NBC and PBS. Just Four options.

Big cities had those plus a number of syndicated channels that played non-network programming, as well as multiple PBS stations.

When cable TV finally reached my home town in the mid 1970s it was primarily rebroadcast TV, the cable companies erected a huge TV antenna and pulled in signals from hundreds of miles away, from those big cities, and offered them for a monthly fee.

I think HBO was the only cable only channel and it cost extra.

For a while the local TV stations got the government to force the cable companies to black out many shows claiming that they were offered locally (like once per week at 3am )

Why is this plastered all over news headlines? I never saw the show, don’t know who she is. I mean Bless her, but, is this a headline? Just reflects the tabloid nature of the news, putting important issues of the day on page five while the country goes to pot, literally.

"The Bob Comings Show" and "Love that Bob" are the same program.

You can see Bob Cummings make gust appearances on other shows (e.g. I Love Lucy) but his career took a serious nosedive after he took the male lead in "My Living Doll", with Julie Newmar as the "scientific experiment" living doll (robot). She pretty much stole the show, even though it wasn't quite a ratings blockbuster. Julie Newmar at that time was an absolute stunner, and the show took every opportunity to show that off.

“Alice” was very representative of a superior cultural time in America. A large strong family with good morals, respect for parents, love and support for each other.

I liked the show, my kids like the show on MeTV. Embrace the nostalgia.
