Gallup Poll: Strong Majority Now Believe Gays Should Be Allowed to Adopt Kids

A strong majority, 63 percent, of Americans now say that same-sex couples should have a legal right to adopt a child, according to a new Gallup poll. About one in three, 35 percent, are opposed.

The result is the opposite of 1992, when Gallup first polled the question. Sixty-three percent said homosexual couples should not be legally permitted to adopt in that year. In 1998, that number declined to 57 percent. In 2003 and 2007, Americans were about equally divided on the question.

The recent poll was the first time Gallup showed a clear majority supportive of giving same-sex couples the legal right to adopt a child.

The strongest support came from Democrats (80 percent), followed by independents (61 percent), then Republicans (51 percent).

Young people were more supportive than older people. Among ages 18 to 29, 77 percent answered that same-sex couples should have the right to adopt, followed by 65 percent for ages 30 to 49, 59 percent for ages 50 to 64 and 52 percent for those 65 and older.

If you are going to support the homosexual agenda in any way, shape or form, you can post elsewhere. Do not post it here!

I suppose it is more a matter of homosexual expression than it is a question of whether or not same sex pedophilia is homosexuality. A very high percentage of adult homosexuals were sexually molested as children. It’s an ongoing cycle of abuse.

Some people believe same sex pedophilia is something other than homosexuality. Maybe they think that way because they don’t want to be intolerant of homosexuality, or because they don’t understand the connection between the two, but a society that is going to play with normalizing homosexuality should expect to pay the price of more pedophilia.

FS2001, I would never dispute that two men or two women could do a fine job at many parenting tasks--- in the sense of being able to feed, clothe, shelter and educate a child, be warm and responsive, shield him from danger, and foster his God-given gifts. These competencies may be found as abundantly in SS couples as in mom & dad couples. As well as in orphanages, group homes, mother-grandmother households, or any number of permutations and combinations of caregivers.

But the very fact that the child is set up for a planned adoption by two men or two women, means they -- or the agency that set it up --- think either that a child has no right to a father, or that a child has no right to a mother.

They're deficient in the very area where diversity and balance counts: diversity in relating to a father AND a mother, and balance in experiencing day by day the affective complementarity of marriage: of a man and a woman in a good marital relationship.

Walker Percy and his two younger brothers were raised well by their homosexual but singleton second cousin, William Alexander Percy. Clarence Thomas was raised by his grandfather, Myers Anderson. God bless those who are thrust by happenstance into a broken situation. Bless them as they do as well as they can. Sometimes --- often --- a child could get stuck in a an unbalanced situation by chance.

But it should not be imposed on any child by choice.

Precisely. We have seen the talking points in this very thread. They use the most dire situation possible (retarded child facing life in orphanage) to justify what is fast becoming state-mandated gay parenting. That is, adoption agencies are being required by law to treat all prospective adoptive couples the same, without regard to such old-fashioned notions as "mothers" and "fathers."

Not supporting the gay agenda. Just used an example from my family. My family is full of adoptions. My sister just adopted a black baby from N. Carolina. We are a white Boston Irish Catholic family. My uncle adopted a black baby and a Latino baby. As far as I know there’s no gays in my extended family. My brother’s wife’s aunt adopted the 2 downs babies. She’s not married to her “partner”. She is a lawyer with plenty of money so I’m sure that helped. They’ve given those babies a hood life. I guess all I’m saying is that it should be judged, each adoption, on an individual basis.

I’m not calling for open gay adoption across the board. I’m just not sure god would specifically condemn this situation in my extended family. That is all.

Some kids wait an awful long time to be adopted. Unless they fit the desirable criteria. It is what is is. We’ve had several adoptions in the family. If you tell the agency you will take any race or kids with serious medical issues your wait time is less. My sister got a black infant within 5 months of joining an agency. The cold reality is not too many married couples are willing to adopt a baby with Downs. Unfortunately as we all know many Downs babies are terminated before birth. An on-going crime against humanity. In my case I’ve seen 2 Lesbians change the lives of 2 Downs kids vastly for the better.

A great self-promoter, but, let’s face it, modern art would not be the same without her and her brother. I give her credit for that.

World would be better off without modern art and most art, period.

Put it on the ballot and into the privacy of the voting booth, and the queers won’t be adopting their their next victim!

I'm afraid you're wrong. We've lost the last four public votes, and that was on re-defining marriage. For years, gays have been allowed to adopt in virtually every state in the nation. With no outcry, no wide condemnation, and no comment from our side. It's a wonder the numbers aren't higher.

We ignore these polls at our peril. Just ask President "Landslide" Romney.

Listen, I’m not pushing a gay agenda. I’m a 19 year officer in the army and I’m disgusted by what’s happened with gays in the military. I’m from a family with several adoptions. Just passed along an example from my extended family. What do you think happens to kids with downs that aren’t adopted? The sad fact is not too many kids with this issue or other medical complications get adopted quickly. That is all.

Well, you're 100% right that there are a lot of kids out there who need someone to care for them and aren't getting that care, just as there are a lot of moms & dads that want to help these kids, and take them into their families, and care for them, and can't.

And let's face it, in his flawed world, there's always a gap--- a big gap or a small one --- between the family we have, and the family we wish we had.

But it's becoming a matter of academic taboo, and even a matter of legally prohibited discrimination, to say that family structure makes a difference, and that having a mother and father married to each other is the best setting for raising children.

Social science research showing negative outcomes for kids raised in a variety of non-mom-and-dad or non-intact household settings is suppressed just like global-warming "denier" data is suppressed. Look what they did to Mark Regnerus' studies on the relevance of family structure in parenting outcomes.

The men-and-women-are-identical ideology is proudly unempirical and is causing a lot of suffering, because ersatz-families are being conjured up, centered around the desires and demands of adults and not the rights and needs of children.

No argument from me that traditional mother and father is best. My wife and I have 3 kids. Could we have more? Times are tight and it would be tough. Plus we’re both in our 40s. Could we adopt? Maybe, but again, it would be tough. But would I ever adopt a downs or other special needs baby? No. That’s the plain truth. Does it make me a bad person? Debatable I guess. I wish all kids could be brought up in the stable m and d ideal. Sadly, just ain’t reality.
