Lindsey Graham Confident of Avoiding South Carolina Runoff
blogs.wsj.com ^ | 6/10/14 | Ted Mann

Sen. Lindsey Graham (R., S.C.) said Tuesday he was confident that his primary battle won’t require a runoff with his six rivals, citing internal polls that put him above the 50% threshold to win the contest outright.

“We were over 50 consistently in the last two weeks,” Mr. Graham told a group of reporters, after he joined Gov. Nikki Haley and fellow Sen. Tim Scott to announce an expansion of General Electric Co.'sGE -0.29% massive electric turbine design and manufacturing center in Greenville, S.C.

“It’s all about turnout,” Mr. Graham said. “At the the end of the day, if there’s a runoff, it will end the same way.”

Mr. Graham embraced recent polling and news reports that show some of his work on issues that have inflamed the tea party insurgence against Republican incumbents — like immigration reform and the use of export-import financing to promote domestic manufacturers’ prospects overseas — hasn’t hurt him with voters at home.

“We have had a chance over the last few months to straighten out some misperceptions,” Mr. Graham said.

Onstage in the turbine factory, Mr. Graham was flanked by Ms. Haley and Mr. Scott, and used his time at the microphone to brandish his national security argument. GE’s sales of power turbines in Iraq and Algeria represented “a bad day for al Qaeda and radical Islam,” he declared.

Mr. Graham also defended the Export-Import Bank, which has been a contentious issue among House Republicans. GE officials say as much as 90% of the output of the Greenville facility is exported, helped along by U.S. government financing via the Ex-Im Bank.

“At the the end of the day, if there’s a runoff, it will end the same way.”

If there's a runoff, Linda is GONE.

After two straight election nights being shocked by easy Obama victories, I refuse to be delusional any more. He’s winning.

WSJ - GOPe Propaganda

That being said, we do not have a legit election system nor any real effort to enforce voting integrity.

Reading some local web posts in SC - Dems are voting for Linda..open primary?
Also, they’re saying turnout has been light. Good/bad for Linda?

The establishment republican party in SC is quite strong. They are the ones that gave us John McCain in 2008. However, they also gave us Newt Gingrich in 2012 but at that time there wasn’t a clear establishment choice.

But Graham is the establishment choice and I imagine the SC republican establishment will help him get over 50%. I would love to be wrong and there is a chance for an upset. But the opponents seem to be weakly supported and funded, similar to the opponents of Cornyn in TX.

I don’t believe the narrative of this piece though, especially the claim that Graham’s immigration rubbish has not hurt him in the polls. Of course it has! He’s not running away with the nomination as he should be!

I watched the debate on SCETV last Sunday. Flimsey was the smug arrogant Washington insider thumbing his nose at six neophyte challengers. Sickening.

Voted for Lee Bright, FWIW.

True dat. Lindsey Graham’s Covert Op: Going Full Democrat

Also, they’re saying turnout has been light. Good/bad for Linda?

My understanding is that "light" turnout is BAD for 'Linda' and GOOD for the ABL (Anybody But Linda) challengers. Their voting base is more energized and likely to turn out than the 'lofo' ones who would vote to re-elect Flimsey Tinkerbelle. Pinging others to confirm this.

Turn out is light - just saw it was ultra light in Anderson, which would be Cash and Graham territory. Turn out in Greenville is not what we’d like, but some other hot spots for us are doing well.

Hoping it’s so hot in Columbia (RINO territory) that no one goes.

Had heard that Dem turn out was really light…I’d like to know more about the local web posts…..

Yes we will find out tonight!
Texas did it’s job. Mississippi did half of its job.
Hopefully SC will do its job.

The estab is strong - fat and flabby because it’s easy to be Dems in SC.

The McCain vote was a lazy, estab vote. The Newt vote was ANTI estab, because Newt’s SC message was the best message of any candidate during that entire campaign. Mitt was the estab choice in SC, but got crushed. (and okay, newt flew off the rails in FL, but I’m talking SC here.)

And yes, immigration has hurt Grahamnesty.

I’ve been around to several precincts in Aiken County and talked w/ folks I know. The voters project a lot of enthusiasm for the candidates running against linda. And very little for linda herself.

I think this may be a result, partially, of linda’s poor performance at the debate Sat night. She didn’t have much fire.

Just keep in mind that he’s the one citing ‘internal’ polling, because none of the public ones show him over 50% and that was before he made a donkey of himself at the debate this weekend.
