Russia seems to be embracing fascism, an odd direction for a nation that was once the bastion of Marxism. Not so odd. Both fascism and communism hold that the individual is the property of the Group/State, that the job of the individual is to advance the goals of the Group, and that seeking one's own personal goals and happiness is wicked.
Substitute "God" for the Group, and you would have some theologians all in favor of the idea.

Not really. Fascism, National Socialism, and Communism, are all closely related. In Germany, the Communists and Nazis were fighting for the same time of people to join, and often members would switch from one party to the other, rather easily.
