Republican and Obamacare-funding congressman Bill Flores (TX-17) recently introduced a bill offering a $1 million cash award for the missing Lois Lerner emails. It also offers a $500,000 award for anybody with knowledge of who may have intentionally destroyed said emails. If such awards were given, it would be paid out of the IRS budget.
While this sounds like a good idea on the surface, in reality, it makes little to no practical sense. The award itself might bring a good many informants out of the shadows, but the bill has no chance of passing the Senate or being signed by Obama. Thus, the bill is DOA and no more than a gimmick.
A truly effective way to offer an award unrestrained by Congress or Obama would be to privately fund it. The average personal worth of each of the 233 Republican members of Congress is $7.6 million. This does not include the amount of money saved in their campaign accounts. Bill Flores own net worth as of 2012 is between $5-6.5 million. Darrel Issa (CA-49), who is one of the Republican leaders leading the IRS scandal investigation, is alone worth between $330 597 million. If Republicans wanted an effective and practical means of offering an award, they could simply pass around the hat and fund it completely without blinking an eye.
Sadly, a gimmick like Mr. Flores simply shows his desperation to create some conservative credentials. His record is far from conservative, having voted for every debt ceiling increase and every resolution that funds Obamacare. His actions prove the true intent. Instead of putting his money where his mouth is, hed rather stamp taxpayer dollars to a bill that has no chance of coming to fruition.
I'm tired of these gimmicks. Its such a waste of time. Its like when they vote to repeal Obamacare 37 times, but then they turn around and vote to fund it.
They can afford it. They should pay for it. Don't pretend like the bill has a chance. Go outside of government to get some results.
Gimmick. Never be allowed to hit the Senate floor (Harry Reid), and would be vetoed as political theater by the Prez.
Is this douchebag up for reelection?
I agree. Do a Larry Flynt style offer, this will never get anywhere but that might.
Obama would likely not sign the bill into law. So bill is election year politics; but probably very effective nonetheless when you're dealing with low-information voters.
Maybe we could crowd-source rewards for things like this.
Imagine if there were 10 or 20 million dollars of rewards out there for information leading to the arrest and conviction of Barry, Eric, Lois, etc.
Things might get hopping in a hurry.
The RINOs could EASILY get a donor to cough up $1 million in reward money if they WANTED to.
Every two years lol
I think it might work. Unfortunately anything "outside the box," to coin a phrase, doesn't seem to be tried.
Yep, like trying to pop Chewbacca for using the word `gypsie.’
The Obamanites may have time for these games, but we don’t.
Maybe we could crowd-source rewards for things like this. -—
Excellent idea. Start one and post a link here. Or someone else who knows how.
Agreed. I'd kick in a few bucks.
Makes the Dems show themselves once again as the party of the IRS. Good election fodder. After Harry refuses, then they should pass the hat. Win-win.
I agree with you. Breitbart offered his own money for (nonexistent) evidence of racism among opponents of Obamacare.
If these reps gave a flying freep, they’d put up their own money out of rage that they’re being made fools by that dumpy apparatchik, Lois Lerner.
Do both.
Put it to open vote, let it be known who doesn’t want Lois Lerner’s emails found
Been saying this for awhile. Limbaugh or others could match funds and pay IRS, Libian survivors or others to turn evidence on this regime.
Remember in Watergate an unknown insider in the Nixon White House, the so-called Deep Throat informer, brought down Nixon. We can hope that there is someone in the IRS with a backbone that will blow this wide open.
Looks like they’ve started one
