My hometown of DeFuniak Springs (population 5,400) got one a week or so ago. It was free except for shipping.
Of course they have no need at all for one but I will have to admit, if someone offered me one for free, I would probably take it.

We arent going to be able to stop the proliferation of the military weapons to local police forces.
Its important, however, to change those things we can, and in this case one thing to change is our perception of those weapons.
We need to begin thinking of them as resources for our side, resources being maintained and fueled for us to use when they are needed.

Our rural blue collar county just got one, too - it must have been free, since they are supposedly broke. The swat team brought it out recently as mentioned here with pic:

Don’t municipal governments have a say in the operation of their PD? At least they are accountable to voters.

They need to install a solar trickle battery charger on this, so it starts when they decide they need it (as long as the fuel does not corrode something)!

Are things that dangerous. From Car 54 to the super police tanker. :) Wouldn’t that be frightful to see coming down your street. A person may think we are under siege or something. I can see them policing the parking lot mall with that monster;)

Wish I had this to counter them:
Davidson Cadillac armored car, 1915. It had it's own generator to cook food and to run radios. It was armed with an M1895 Colt-Browning machine gun and had a top speed of 70 MPH.

Every surplus weapon and armed vehicle outside of a duce and half truck should be given to the local Army NG Armory, or a Branch reserve unit. A duce and half would serve local civil defense a useful purpose in hauling needed supplies etc in disasters. I can see that exception but not much more.
Civilian Law Enforcement does not need to be militarized or RAMBO wannabees. Their camouflage uniforms need to go, so does the alphabet Tee shirts. Put all LEO back in standard traditional patrol uniforms when dealing with the public in any official capacity except when on plain clothes undercover assignments. SWAT Teams should be a last resort choice not a routine means to lower risk. No Knock Raids should not be permitted except in a known hostage situation.
Do away with the property confiscation & forfeiture laws except in the case of where the money is used solely to compensate the actual victims of the crime the criminal committed and harmed. These laws have become corrupted and are being used as means to fund police departments and government coffers.
