More than 100 Kansas Republican politicians and activists Tuesday threw their collective weight behind Democratic governor candidate Paul Davis, a move designed to inspire other rebellious Republicans to action and weaken the re-election bid of GOP Gov. Sam Brownback.
Public expression of support for Davis by Republicans from across the state at a Topeka news conference exposed anew civil war within the Republican Party between moderates and conservatives. The endorsements also reflected Davis' effort to frame his campaign in bipartisan tones.
"All of us are proud Republicans," said Wint Winter Jr., a former state senator. "We came together because of our common love of Kansas, our commitment to Kansas families and our belief in moderate, commonsense leadership. We are deeply concerned by the direction Sam Brownback is taking Kansas."
In the heavily Republican state, votes of GOP centrists as well as independents could be pivotal in a major-party showdown between Davis and Brownback.
John Milburn, spokesman for Brownback, said the governor's attention was on job expansion, investments in education and "preserving the bedrock values of hard work, faith and family."
The campaign of Jennifer Winn, a Wichita businesswoman seeking the Republican nomination against Brownback, said in a statement the public showing by GOP officials illustrated the "immense unpopularity of Brownback's policies among Kansas voters."

I think it’s also a bunch of BS. The republican will win.
Is the democrat going to be our next Kathleen Sebelius?
They just don't prefer. They'll go out of their way to sabotage the conservative and actively support the democrat. Look what happened in the recent Virginia governors race.
Maybe if you were sort of active on the political front twenty-five years ago, some of these names might ring a bell. Looks like a desperate bid for one last day in a newspaper, if you ask me.
The Republican primary run-off in Mississippi comes to mind, as well.
Backstabbers, two faced turncoats.
RINO Establishment big government leftists want big government leftist Democrat for KS Governor, film at 11.

Then punch away....
If you live in Kansas there is nothing stopping you to make up a few leaflets of your own printing them up and passing them around....
I remember the number of famous names, claiming to be Republican, who in 2008 and 2012, espoused Barrack H Obama for President. Names like Eisenhower, Nixon, Reagan and others, who seem to have gotten quiet of late, save Ron Reagan Jr. who is still Hollyweird gone!
A state as republican as Kansas is going to go for The republican. Brownback is doing good.
“A state as republican as Kansas is going to go for The republican. Brownback is doing good.”
I hope you’re right. And I hope he smokes out even more closet liberals.
I hope the Conservatives are mad as hell and take it out on Pat Roberts in the Senate Primary.
