Reports: Cruz Angering GOP Establishment on Way to '16 Run

Sen. Ted Cruz has his eye fixed on the White House, and he plans to undercut the established Republican House leadership to help get him there, reports say.

Cruz's latest political target, according to Breitbart, is New Hampshire Democratic Sen. Jeanne Shaheen, who he says "has voted lock-step with President Obama to prevent any efforts to finally secure our border."

But while Shaheen's most likely opponent in the upcoming elections will be Republican Scott Brown, a former senator from Massachusetts, Cruz's choice of key state New Hampshire to make an impression says more about the lofty aspirations of the junior Republican senator from Texas that it does his opposition to Shaheen.

Cruz, an avowed tea party supporter, currently is receiving a lot of the credit, or the blame, for the failure of the GOP border bill in the House, which would have provided $659 million in funding, less than the $1.5 billion of the bill's original price tag, cut back to placate conservatives, and a lot less than the $3.7 billion President Obama was seeking to deal with the crisis of over 50,000 unaccompanied illegal immigrant minors who have flooded the Southwest border, according to the Christian Science Monitor.

With last-minute wheedling, Cruz, who wants to cancel out Obama's 2012 executive action to defer deportation, which he has termed "amnesty," helped to persuade enough conservative legislators to defeat the House bill.

Combined with Cruz's elbowing his way in to the New Hampshire race, and planned visits to another key state, Iowa, his actions have caused the Washington Post to declare, "Ted Cruz is running for President."

As always the stupid GOPe doesn’t realize who it is that’s keeping this party afloat. Reagan beat back the establishment in 1980 and we need to help Cruz do the same thing two years from now.

Raise your hand if you give a flying f* about what the GOP Establishment thinks. About anything.

"Reports" can be mendacious...

Reminds me of Katie Couric's noxious "there are those who say ..." and "some say ..."

https://www.numbersusa.com/content/my/congress/11589/votingrecord#tabset-5

Senator Cruz demands 100% effective control of the Border before consideration of any measure to deal with people already here illegally.

Cruz does not demand a Border fence, of the type demanded by Senator Sessions. He voted against the Sessions fence demand amendment in 2013. The Alabama Senator’s amendment was a demand that an already authorized fence of double layers stretching 700 miles, be actually funded and constructed.

Cruz being honest as he is, since he has never supported such a fence, voted against it.

His voting record on other immigration and Border security measures besides this fence can also be read at the link.

I’m a born and raised Texan. I agree with Senator Cruz and Governor Perry that fencing needs to be used intelligently in certain places, but that much faster deployed and more effective measures need to be used intelligently where they are more appropriate than the Sessions fence.

I read that you along with some others appear to have a caveat in order to support Cruz. You post about it here as though Cruz either has your position on it or that at least he could be persuaded to it if enough people would demand a Border fence via a Cruz candidacy in 2016.

I simply say, look at his record. He is a very smart man. He is totally committed to Border security. He does not support the Sessions fence. He does support fencing “where appropriate” but has made clear the total fence idea is a non starter.

I totally agree with him. The same position is held by FR’s favorite attack target, Governor Perry, re: the Sessions fence. I totally agree with him on that specific issue.

In the past I was harshly attacked for it.

I’m certain I will be again, that is, if anybody cares to waste time and cause needless division by attacking me for it.

Whatever.

So be it.

Really? So, your guiding philosophy is- “If you can be blamed, you’re responsible.” Good grief. Are you a pretender, on this conservative forum?

It is precisely because Ted is angering the GOP-wing of the Democrat Party that the TEA party-wing of the GOP loves him.

If nothing else we’ll get a 4 year pause in the destruction of America. We won’t get that with a GOPe approved candidate.

The will dominate the bureaucracy and courts even with a GOP President. It would take a very very long to root out the activist leftists from the system

I’m still for the alligator filled moat (or Rio Grande). We have plenty in East TX, and a giant surplus in LA.

I am of two minds about this. The first one is simple.

1. GOOD.

The second one is

2. If he wants to really run for POTUS (and a disclaimer, I am not a big Cruz fan) then if you piss off EVERYONE, you’ll never get nominated. There are just not enough Tea Partiers to do that. If there were, then Romney never would have been the nominee.

At a minimum, I am quite interested to see how this one plays out.

The only way not to anger the GOP Establishment (unless you’re a Democrat) is to be part of the GOP Establishment.

There’s a reason for the phrase, “Go along to get along”—except there’s no point to politics if that’s all you’re going to do.

For some reason my hands are not leaving the keyboard.

A family member received yesterday or today a letter from the RNC. I told them that all the RNC cared about was keeping the money flowing in toward themselves.

He's not pissing off everyone, only the traitorous GOP-E, the Chamber of Cronyism, and those who value their money more than their principles and want to use the seat of power the GOP has to manipulate Government for themselves and to grow the Government.

Those maybe people with a lot of money, but it most certainly is not most of the Republican electorate and certainly there is a sizable minority of the Independents that won't go along with this as well.
