The Current Ebola Strain: It’s Airborne Folks
The Conservative Treehouse ^ | 8-5-14 | sundance

The empirical evidence of an airborne Ebola Strain is overwhelming

Hat Tip GWP - Patrick Sawyer was the American businessman, who contracted Ebola while working in Liberia, then collapsed after he got off a plane to Nigeria and died July 25. He was the first patient in Nigeria with the Ebola virus. The Nigerian authorities have refused to release the names of other passengers on the plane with Mr. Sawyer, or notify the media of their status.

Or - it could be an illegal alien (like that TB patient that ran off) that doesn’t want to “get in trouble”.

I've heard Rush say that it takes about 45 days for illegals to travel from their place of origin to the US border. Ebola has a maximum incubation period of 21 days, but it is usually more like 8 days. Thus, an illegal alien from Africa is not likely to make it alive to the US within the incubation period.

BTW, anyone with the onset symptoms of Ebola and also has enough of it to shed, will not likely be having sex.

I remember, though, from reading Hot Zone that one of the early cases of either Marburg or Ebola loved to visit the local ladies of the night. And spread it all through a village that way.

Early on, if the patient is just feverish, I can see where he might feel well enough to frequent "ladies of the night." Later in the illness, he won't feel like doing much of anything.

After recovery, however, active virus can remain within seminal fluid. Infective virus was isolated from seminal fluid 82 days after onset of illness in one study; somewhere else, I read that a man gave Ebola to his wife 6 weeks after he recovered.

Virus is also present in breast milk. This may not be a major concern, since in all likelihood, the baby already died of Ebola before the mother recovered. Babies in utero die pretty early into the illness; a breastfeeding mother probably passes the illness to the baby as soon as she becomes symptomatic.

In any case, post-illness transmission is a concern. The virus does eventually clear, but transmission should be considered possible up to at least 3 months after recovery.

They guy was very sick at the time he traveled and he was also extremely pig headed.

I think that airline policies towards refunds/reissue of tickets might have something to do with that. After you've spent hundreds of dollars on a non-refundable ticket, you'll probably want to get on your scheduled flight regardless of how you feel.

The pertinent fact is that taking so much Vitamin C that the kidneys are unable to secrete all of it and the blood concentration actually increases is not good, and can lead to pathologies.”

....can lead to pathologies.”

pathologies? pathologies!!!!

did you ever look at the pathologies of any course of anti-cancer drug that your group, big pharma pushes?

you should blush just for repeating that lie about Vitamin D

Vitamin D is nothing pharma can patent and charge for so they say it dangerous.

plus you fail to point out all the folks with cancer on MEGA high doses of Vitamin D whose pathology cancer remits

you could never accept that because it would mean the $40,000 plus for every cancer patient’s anti-cancer drugs would go bye-bye.

Yes - that is a hopeful point. I was thinking of someone already in the States here illegally. Just as they won't go to the authorities now for spouse abuse, workplace conditions, etc. for fear of being caught.

Vitamin C: The “Miracle Nutrient” that Cured Man on the Brink of Death
October 29, 2010 |

http://articles.mercola.com/sites/articles/archive/2010/10/29/high-dose-iv-vitamin-c-found-useful-for-near-terminal-swine-flu.asp

When a King Country dairy farmer came down with a serious case of swine flu, intensive care specialists said there was no hope. They were set to pull him off of life support, but his family refused to give up.

The family demanded that the doctors try high doses of Vitamin C. The hospital told them it wouldn’t work, but the family insisted. They had to hire a lawyer to get their way — but their actions saved the man’s life.

Click the link below to see a news report of this amazing story.

Dr. Mercola’s Comments:

The 18-minute long New Zealand News3 video report shows the compelling story of Allan Smith, a man conventional doctors claimed “could not survive,” after contracting a severe case of swine flu in June of last year.

But they were wrong.

Allan’s family refused to accept the hospital’s hopeless prognosis and the subsequent decision to turn off his life support. Instead, his family insisted the hospital try high dose intravenous (IV) vitamin C.

You’d think the hospital would have willingly agreed. After all, none of their conventional treatment methods had worked. The entire intensive care unit staff declared he was beyond hope.

Yet one medical expert after another, throughout this nine week ordeal, refused to administer intravenous vitamin C!

Why?

They simply “didn’t think it would work,” and dismissed it.

The family ended up enlisting a top legal expert to fight for their right to have vitamin C administered. This case illustrates just how difficult it may be to get a conventional hospital to concede to measures that fall outside the scope of conventional medical practice – even when the suggested treatment is FAR safer than any drug alternative.

And in this case, they had absolutely NOTHING to lose by taking a wild chance... They had already given up and claimed he was as good as dead! And yet they resisted every step of the way.

Fortunately, this man’s family was both resourceful and insistent.

Another recent example illustrating the necessity to think for yourself and not allow yourself to be railroaded by narrow-minded doctors is this one, where CNN Health writer Elizabeth Cohen discusses the positive outcome her mother experienced once she decided to buck the system by being a “bad” patient.

How a Humble Vitamin Brought Allan Back from the Brink of Certain Death

The story of Allan’s recovery has become known as “one of the most remarkable and controversial turnarounds in New Zealand medical history.” And for good reason.

It’s not every day someone walks away from the brink of certain death.

What makes this story even more remarkable, is the fact that once admitted to the hospital with swine flu, Allan was also diagnosed with leukemia, which dramatically worsened his chances of recovery.

Vitamin C expert Dr. Thomas Levy initially sent me Allan Smith’s case report over a year ago, and I’m thankful for his contributions to this follow-up article as well.

Dr. Levy is the author of several books, including Curing the Incurable: Vitamin C, Infectious Diseases, and Toxins, and Stop America’s #1 Killer, a book about vitamin deficiency and heart disease. He’s also written extensively on topics such as dental toxicity issues from mercury amalgams and root canals, vaccine safety, and the clinical uses of vitamin C for infectious diseases.

Dr. Levy went to New Zealand in the middle of the furor following the 60-Minutes program about Allan’s case and gave a PowerPoint presentation, “Vitamin C: The Facts, the Fiction, and the Law.” This presentation is available on the home page of his website www.peakenergy.com, along with more information about vitamin C use.

The Smith family had contacted him for advice, and he’d referred them to John Appleton in New Zealand. Appleton provided a lot of information on vitamin C and referred the family to CAM (Centre for Advanced Medicine), www.camltd.co.nz in Auckland.

According to Dr. Levy, adequately dosed vitamin C, to his knowledge, has never failed to cure an acute viral syndrome, and Allan’s case couldn’t be a better demonstration of the curative power of vitamin C.

Not only did the vitamin C cure Allan’s swine flu infection, but after spending nine weeks in an induced coma, he walked out of physical rehab after 13 days as opposed to the predicted three months.

Even more astounding, today, just over a year later, he also has no further signs of leukemia...

The Allan Smith New Zealand Vitamin C Organization is now dedicated to supporting patients’ rights to receive high dose vitamin C in hospitals, if they request it. The website, vitaminCcancure.org, also includes the original TV3 60-Minute program about Allan’s story.

Dosage Guidelines

According to Dr. Levy’s case report, the vitamin C doses administered to achieve this astonishing turn-around were:

25 grams were given intravenously on the first day
Followed by two 25 gram infusions the next day. At this point, the chest x-ray suddenly showed air pockets in Allan’s lungs — a dramatic improvement!
On the third day, Allan received 75 grams intravenously
Followed by 100 grams IV daily for another 4 to 6 days
To the Smith family’s shock, a new hospital consultant decided to discontinue the vitamin C treatment at this point, which led to further battles with the hospital administration.

One week later, the intravenous vitamin C (IVC) was restarted, but only at one measly gram, twice daily. Still, despite this tiny dose, his recovery slowly continued. Once Allan regained consciousness, he started taking 6 grams of oral Lypospheric vitamin C a day, at which point he began to rapidly improve.

The family firmly believes that had the hospital continued administering IVC at the recommended high dosage, Allan’s recovery may have been far more swift.

Vitamin C and Infectious Disease

Dr. Levy is a great resource and has written about the mechanics of vitamin C and how it works to treat infectious diseases such as the flu. You can find one such article here.

According to Dr. Albert Szent-Gyorgyi, “health” occurs when there is an ample flow and interchange of electrons in your cells. Impaired or poor electron flow and interchange equals “disease,” and when the flow and interchange ceases entirely, your cells die.

Oxidation, caused by free radicals in your body, involves the loss of electrons.

Antioxidants counter the disease process caused by oxidation (loss of electrons) by supplying electrons.

Vitamin C is a major antioxidant, and according to Dr. Levy, perhaps the most important “electron donor” to maintain optimal electron flow in your cells.

Using vitamin C to combat infectious diseases is not new.

In 2005, the Orthomolecular Medicine News Service (a non-profit and non-commercial informational resource), published findings that vitamin C beats bird flu and other viruses, stating that:

“High dose vitamin C is a remarkably safe and effective treatment for viral infections. In high doses, vitamin C neutralizes free radicals, helps kill viruses, and strengthens your body’s immune system.

Taking supplemental vitamin C routinely helps prevent viral infections.”

For severe types of influenza, such as bird flu, they recommend the following dosages:

“Severe cases may require 200,000 to 300,000 milligrams of vitamin C or more, given intravenously (IV) by a physician.

This very high dosing may be needed since the Avian Flu appears to consume vitamin C very rapidly, similar to an acute viral hemorrhagic fever, somewhat like an Ebola infection.”

They even state that vitamin C, at saturation, can replace antiviral drugs.

Here are three other sources discussing the remarkable benefits of vitamin C for infectious diseases such as the flu:

Journal of Manipulative and Physiological Therapeutics, 1999 found that vitamin C in megadoses administered before or after the appearance of cold and flu symptoms relieved and prevented the symptoms in the test population compared with the control group.
The Clinical Experiences of Frederick R. Klenner, MD states that cases of influenza, encephalitis, and measles were easily cured with vitamin C injections and oral doses.
Orthomed.com – Dr. Robert Cathcart, MD, also offers personal case studies where intravenous administration of vitamin C turned out to be lifesaving in cases of acute flu complications.

“It is not really a matter of medicine; it is a matter of chemistry. Doses of ascorbate which are massive enough to force a reducing redox potential into tissues affected by the disease will always neutralize the free radicals,” he says.

A Word of Caution about Vitamin C Supplements

It’s important to remember that every nutrient you ingest raises or lowers up to nine other nutrients in your body.

Every nutrient needs certain synergistic nutrients, and if you are already low in those synergistic nutrients, taking more of one thing will only further deplete the existing deficient levels, worsening any problems relating to that nutrient’s metabolism.

For example, taking large doses of vitamin C (ascorbic acid) on a regular basis lowers your level of copper, so if you are already deficient in copper and take high doses of vitamin C, you can compromise your immune system.

So, whereas temporarily taking megadoses of vitamin C supplements to combat a case of the cold or flu is likely not going to cause a problem, for long-term, daily use, your best bet is to eat a diet high in organic vegetables and fruits that are minimally processed.

Not only will you get vitamin C, but you will get all the other accessory nutrients and micronutrients that are needed to optimize it.

Yet Another Potent Alternative to Dangerous and Poorly Tested Flu Vaccines

Fortunately, Allan’s case of swine flu was unusual. As you probably know by now, the swine flu epidemic actually turned out to be far milder than previous flu seasons...

Meanwhile, the pandemic influenza vaccine has turned out to be highly reactive – more reactive than previous influenza vaccines. In addition, we also know that the most commonly used flu drug Tamiflu comes with a laundry list of potential dangers, from blackouts to brain infections, to neuropsychiatric events, and death. (Allan also received Tamiflu, which had no effect whatsoever against the raging infection...)

I mention all of this because since Allan’s swine flu infection was extremely severe, it has the potential to frighten some people into wanting to take any measure available to avoid a similar fate.

But it’s important to realize that your chances of avoiding such an infection by taking the flu vaccine was, and still is, slim to none.

That said, isn’t it comforting then to know there are at least two viable alternatives to conventional flu treatments?!

The other alternative, in addition to vitamin C discussed above, is vitamin D, which I have already mentioned in previous articles.

Although the studies proving vitamin D’s protective powers against the flu do not include the swine flu virus specifically (it’s too new to have been included), there are compelling reasons to believe it can offer protection against swine flu (H1N1) as well.

Canada has since vowed to investigate vitamin D’s protective potential against the H1N1 virus specifically, but as you probably know, flu viruses mutate each year, yet people with sufficient vitamin D levels appear more or less immune to the seasonal flu regardless of which strain is currently in circulation.

So... you jump from Vitamin C right over to Vitamin D, accuse me of telling lies about Vitamin D (even though I did not mention it), and go on to invent multitudes of people whose cancer was supposedly cured with Vitamin D without a single high-quality medical reference to back up the claim?

It is odd/funny that you would insist that I provide PubMed references to support the fact that overdosing on Vitamin C can and does cause kidney disease and failure, but then, in your next post, you link to Mercola’s site right at the beginning. Mercola is a notorious quack, who makes millions selling his supplements, and who makes numerous claims that are not backed up in the scientific literature. Or he’ll highlight the one study that, for whatever reason, produced an aberrant result and try to pass it off as the only “reliable” study on the subject, completely dismissing the consistency of the studies that show something else is going on.

Your link to a known quack snake-oil salesman saves me the trouble of having to read or refute anything further in that post. There is absolutely nothing from Mercola that is worth my time.

Apparently, you don’t like the fact that “Big Pharma” makes money (that it reinvests in development of new and better drugs), but it’s perfectly okay with you for someone to make millions selling unneeded supplements. I suppose if I were dishonest like Mercola (Burzynski, Null, Oz, and the rest of those snakes), I could make a fortune selling people things they not only do not need, but which can harm them. But, unfortunately, I’m honest, and rely too much on actual evidence of beneficial effect to try to sell anything. So, I’ll just keep plugging away at my research and hoping that someday, it will translate to new therapies.

As I said you’ve got a great gig schilling for the “ethical” read pharmaceutical industry.

Schilling for patent medicines that are exorbitantly overpriced, often addictive, have been shown to have FDA official in collusion with pharma, and most importantly are shown over time to be ineffectual and even harmful yet kept on the market by lawyers in bed with the industry.

I am sure there will never be an alternative med that will meet your ‘highest standards’

Forget it. I’m not going to waste my time reading Mercola’s bilge, and posting it is a waste of bandwidth. Nor will I go to his website; I don’t want my computer infected.

Seeing as how you are so protective of the continued profit of snake oil salesmen, I suspect you are raking in the dough yourself through those scams.

Accusing anyone who stands up for evidence based science of being a “Big Pharma” shill is extremely old and unimaginative. How about coming up with something new? Do you even have that amount of imagination?

$13 per pound for Vitamin C to cure versus $1000s of dollars of pharmaceuticals and $10,000s of hospital charges to often make even sicker - see the definitions of nocosomial and iatrogenic illness

funny how this article demonstrates exactly the opposite of what you stated about Vitamin C. #1 it is safe and #2 it works and #3 it is cheap - the nightmare for all the researchers whose income is derived from new drugs that do nothing and often cause harm. Note that in ancient Greece Pharmakon meant either "cure" or "poison"

Phase I safety trial of intravenous ascorbic acid in patients with severe sepsis

http://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pmc/articles/PMC3937164/

Alpha A Fowler, III, Aamer A Syed, [...], and Ramesh Natarajan

Background

Parenterally administered ascorbic acid modulates sepsis-induced inflammation and coagulation in experimental animal models. The objective of this randomized, double-blind, placebo-controlled, phase I trial was to determine the safety of intravenously infused ascorbic acid in patients with severe sepsis.

Methods

Twenty-four patients with severe sepsis in the medical intensive care unit were randomized 1:1:1 to receive intravenous infusions every six hours for four days of ascorbic acid: Lo-AscA (50 mg/kg/24 h, n = 8), or Hi-AscA (200 mg/kg/24 h, n = 8), or Placebo (5% dextrose/water, n = 8). The primary end points were ascorbic acid safety and tolerability, assessed as treatment-related adverse-event frequency and severity. Patients were monitored for worsened arterial hypotension, tachycardia, hypernatremia, and nausea or vomiting. In addition Sequential Organ Failure Assessment (SOFA) scores and plasma levels of ascorbic acid, C-reactive protein, procalcitonin, and thrombomodulin were monitored.

Results

Mean plasma ascorbic acid levels at entry for the entire cohort were 17.9 ± 2.4 μM (normal range 50-70 μM). Ascorbic acid infusion rapidly and significantly increased plasma ascorbic acid levels. No adverse safety events were observed in ascorbic acid-infused patients. Patients receiving ascorbic acid exhibited prompt reductions in SOFA scores while placebo patients exhibited no such reduction. Ascorbic acid significantly reduced the proinflammatory biomarkers C-reactive protein and procalcitonin. Unlike placebo patients, thrombomodulin in ascorbic acid infused patients exhibited no significant rise, suggesting attenuation of vascular endothelial injury.

Conclusions

Intravenous ascorbic acid infusion was safe and well tolerated in this study and may positively impact the extent of multiple organ failure and biomarkers of inflammation and endothelial injury.

PS It works on exactly what we were discussing regarding Ebola: Sepsis Multiple organ failure Inflammation Hemorrhage

I thought you were directly in the discussion on the merits of intravenous megadoses of Vitamin C for hemmoraghic fevers like Ebola.

Normally I don't even bother to get involved in these "snake oil" arguments. But I told you once already what I think of vitamin C.

Some 40 years ago they were hawking it to cure the common cold and flu..... it failed failed..because the promises and the research was BS

Ten years or so after that they started with the high dose therapies for everything from the flu to cancer and they have been doing it ever since.

Interest continues to be difficult to come by so they have to continually mine the population for new suckers, and you want to know why? Because it's does nothing for those who need something to be done and they continue with the same promises and the same inferences that it's a wonder drug and now they do it as a add on treatment to other drugs which we do know has effect. Might as well claim that saline is a wonder drug and you will still get good results the way they do the research.. All you do with that stuff is pee it right back out and for anyone who's kidneys or liver have been abused by other necessary FDA approved therapy's, it can actually do more harm. The drugs we have been using in this country from anti-biotic's to cancer therapies, to over the counter pain and other OTC meds are all taxing the renal systems of the people who take them, including me. Some are necessary as no other options are available but at 10$ per pound it does not make them more effective or less dangerous.

I would not touch C with a ten foot pole, nor Tylenol, Zocor, or anything that I did not absolutely need that day. It's all snake oil, as far as I am concerned. Take with caution, and that "well tolerated" BS is just that....Bull Shite.. For pain I still use aspirin...It works.. but like anything you have use as necessary and not as a habit. However it is about 10 bucks a pound as well. Like anything else that you eat too much of it will hurt you.

I would never megadose any foreign substance. Nor should you or anyone unless it was the last resort.

Cold

I’m not forcing you to do anything in fact it doesn’t matter at all what you do or don’t do.

What counts is real doctors in real hospitals are now doing this routinely and without the adverse effects.

Which is what the article says if you were to actually read it

Ebola will have a drastic effect in Africa:

He says Liberia seemed to change in just a matter of weeks.

“The streets were already less populated,” Wilson explains. “There were fewer people in the markets. There were all of the chlorine baths with signs on the buckets saying ‘Ebola is real.’ And the radio on 24 hours a day— all about Ebola.”

Besides its medical impact, he says Ebola has affected many Africans’ economic and social lives, including the way people say hello to family and friends, to how the food is prepared, to even the way people travel.

“No taxi cab could have more than three passengers in the backseat and one in the front. Before Ebola, it was very common to see as many as ten passengers in a small car,” says Wilson.

The Liberian government put in place several mandates to try to stop the spread of the disease. People are no longer allowed to gather in churches, street vendors can no longer sell their products, and business owners have to provide chlorine baths.

In addition, long sleeved shirts have to be worn to avoid skin to skin contact of people that might bump into each other, and schools were closed until further notice.

As a result, the fewer economic opportunities means more people in poverty, as most Liberians, Wilson says, live off of the equivalent of one U.S. dollar per day.

“I am most concerned about the potential for civil unrest as this medical crisis becomes an economic crisis and a hunger crisis,” Wilson concludes.

Even those who are not afflicted with the disease are still affected.
