If the GOP takes the Senate then the leader will be McConnell, like it or not. Unless he loses his own re-election race.
The only way this could even possibly happen is if McConnell loses his seat.
Here’s to hoping McConnell loses his seat!
Help McConnell apply for a job at Trent Lott’s Lobbying Firm.
I would back Sessions for what ever position he seeks. He has first class leadership abilities, something we desperately need if we are to climb out of this constant crisis we and the world are in.
I’m hoping Majority Leader is an elected position
He's very likely to lose. And that won't be a bad thing.

Has anyone actually READ the mahvellous bill that was joined to the “fixed” bill which had previously been rejected?
Exactly what do they say? By what measures would they bring Obunga’s amnesties for “children” to a screeching halt? By what mechanism would Obunga, Reid, et al be compelled to implement them? By what safeguards would those cretins be prevented from rewriting them and giving us amnesty anyhow?
I’m sorry, but my Mama named me Thomas and I’ll BELIEVE that Sessions and his cohorts, and the bill(s) they passed are on the level when I can SEE what they actually passed, and how it will actually correct the current insanity.
As I said, the numbers are trending his direction.
The 4 point lead has been hyped by those that really, really want to keep him. But it's really, really weak.
Normally, an incumbent that is in a leadership position has a double digit lead.
He shouldn't have declared war on conservatives.

It is, by the GOP memnbers. Look at the list of current and likely Republican senators in 2016 and I have no problem identifying at least 30 who will vote for McConnell.
My prediction: you won’t find Jeff Sessions having supported any amnesty bill in the past, and you won’t find him supporting one in the future.
We all know that the only way to bring all this to a screeching halt is complete control of immigration, specifically to include building a double fence with high tech no-man’s land in between, and across the entire border.
I think the Gop-E wants him gone, too, but they’ll probably go for Portman or someone like him. That’s probably the background of the Portman presidential gambit. “I’ll not split the establishment vote if I get Senate Majority leader.”
Something like that.
But what it does say is that there’s a background desire to dump McConnell. The question will be who replaces him.
Bevins was an inept candidate with an enept campaign. He got hung up on some things he should have been prepared for (his signature on those business documents) and shot himself in the foot at least once (the cockfighting rally mess). The guy simply couldn’t fight his way out of a political paper bag.
A decent candidate could have knocked McConnell out in the primary. Unfortunately one failed to show up. Compare/contrast with Brat (who won) and McDaniels (who got robbed).
There’s now a Libertarian in the race, who is going to siphon off votes that probably would have gone to Grimes. Those that would cross to Grimes are going to be the most damaging votes.
Dems aren't a small government party, and many voting libertarian want smaller government. They don't vote for the Dem.
The establishment pubs won a lot of ugly primaries, but I think they will lose a lot of races in the general election.

The GOPe may not like him but they'll support him because a) it's "his turn" and b) they're afraid of the retaliation if they vote against him and he wins anyway.
As a general rule, yes.
It’s just that voters who are going to abandon McConnell anyways now have an alternative to staying home (which will be a wash) or crossing over to vote for Grimes. It’s those latter voters who really hurt because they’ll drive a deficit that McConnell will need to make up for elsewhere.
A lot of KY Conservatives here on FR have endorsed Grimes and stated that they plan to vote for her, if you haven’t noticed. But FReepers tend to be smart about political mathmatics. Given the option, run of the mill KY Conservatives will vote Libertarian if given the option, denying their vote to McConnell, (who they weren’t going to vote for anyways) but also denying it to Grimes (where it really could help her win)
And don't forget that even though the GOP-E plays ugly when it comes to conservatives, they are pikers compared to the cut-throat dems.
McConnell barely won his last general election by 6 points against a weak dem.
Now he's against a strong dem, and he's declared war on his base.

A 6 point victory is solid in this brave new 50-50 world.
We’ve been over this before. McConnells last election was in 2008, with the 6-point margin being driven by an abnormally large turnout in places like Louisville’s West End (predominantly Black).
IOW you are starting with the assumption that Black turnout will be as high as it was in 2008, with Obama at the top of the ticket? Is that your assumption, and if so how do you support it?
The way I read the numbers, looking mainly at the trending for the Louisville Congressional seat now held by Yarmouth, had 2008 not been a Presidential election and had Obama not been at the top of the ticket, mcConnell would have won by 11-14 points. Not 6.
We’re now in a mid-term race. With completely different dynamics. That 6 point figure isn’t all that relevant.
Dastardly Pistol Pete Sessions, (R-TX) is the RINO who gets credited with the good works of JEFF Sessions, (R-AL), while he is knee chopping conservatives along with fellow Texan Cornyn.
