How The West Created ISIS … with a little help from our friends.

...

Military action is necessary to halt the spread of the ISIS/IS “cancer,” said President Obama. Yesterday, in his much anticipated address, he called for expanded airstrikes across Iraq and Syria, and new measures to arm and train Iraqi and Kurdish ground forces.

“The only way to defeat [IS] is to stand firm and to send a very straightforward message,” declared Prime Minister Cameron. “A country like ours will not be cowed by these barbaric killers.”

Missing from the chorus of outrage, however, has been any acknowledgement of the integral role of covert US and British regional military intelligence strategy in empowering and even directly sponsoring the very same virulent Islamist militants in Iraq, Syria and beyond, that went on to break away from al-Qaeda and form ‘ISIS’, the Islamic State of Iraq and Syria, or now simply, the Islamic State (IS).

Since 2003, Anglo-American power has secretly and openly coordinated direct and indirect support for Islamist terrorist groups linked to al-Qaeda across the Middle East and North Africa. This ill-conceived patchwork geostrategy is a legacy of the persistent influence of neoconservative ideology, motivated by longstanding but often contradictory ambitions to dominate regional oil resources, defend an expansionist Israel, and in pursuit of these, re-draw the map of the Middle East.

Now despite Pentagon denials that there will be boots on the ground – and Obama’s insistence that this would not be another “Iraq war” – local Kurdish military and intelligence sources confirm that US and German special operations forces are already “on the ground here. They are helping to support us in the attack.” US airstrikes on ISIS positions and arms supplies to the Kurds have also been accompanied by British RAF reconnaissance flights over the region and UK weapons shipments to Kurdish peshmerga forces.

No, I’m the RAND corp.

http://www.rand.org/content/dam/rand/pubs/monographs/2008/RAND_MG738.pdf

It’s the “divide and rule” strategy of the US in prosecuting the “long war”.

Does Alex Jones own the RAND corp or something ?

They grew because they were attacked. And we’re basically only talking about the West Bank and the Golan Heights being added to Israel and even then only for defensive purposes. The addition of the West Bank made it harder to cut Israel in half and the addition of the Golan Heights made it impossible for the Syrians to shell Israel from high ground. These are hardly the actions of an expansionist nation.

So the neoprogs that openly support the terrorist had nothing at all to do with this out of control foreign policy ? Takes two to dance. This was a Rino/Dino op all the way. Another fine mess caused by the oligarchy/uniparty.

Didn't read the article nor will I. Islam is not the West's fault. The Islamic State is Islam's fault.

They are probably talking about the building of settlements on the West Bank and other areas.

Yes, and my reply was appropriate. I agree that ISIS is a cancer.

The cause is Islam/Koran.

“ISIS was essentially created by the US and UK governments”

Nah, It is a product of Islam. Maybe someone aided in the development of this lesion, but the cause is still Islam.

As another example Russia allegedly occupied parts of Ukraine and Georgia for the same reasons.
Are these actions of expansionist nation or not?

...”Russia allegedly occupied parts of Ukraine and Georgia for the same reasons....Are these actions of an expansionist nation”....

No...There was never any way that this Nato/EU/US drive to expand into the original cradle of Russian identity was not going to provoke Moscow to react,..they knew it would come to that....and with the prospect that Russia’s warm-water ports might soon be taken over by Nato and in play.... this entire thing happened without surprise to the EU/US .....when in fact what set this crisis in motion were the reckless moves to absorb Ukraine into the EU.

Please do not re-post any removed posts. Now three of your posts in this thread have had to be removed. Two were copyright restricted material - unlinked Washington Post articles with no apparent excerpt. The other post had an unattributed unlinked article which contained material from counterpunch.org and alternet.org, both blocked sites.

Thank you.

Well things would not have gone this far under a different administration...and we have it because people are stupid....even when informed.

But I can’t argue that far too many are supporting the NWO today..and our educational Institutions more than contributed to this in many ways....and does so still.

“If you read the entire article you will find links to places like the Washington Post, New York Times and numerous others.”

But what’s striking is that this article doesn’t include a link to the very JSOU “Dividing Our Enemies” report that it is supposedly based on.

Why is that? Is it unavailable?

No, it’s readily available. I found it in seconds right here:

http://www.hoover.org/sites/default/files/uploads/inline/docs/dividingourenemies.pdf

The reason that it isn’t linked is because then you could read the report for yourself. You’d see that it’s a study on getting our enemies to fight among themselves and the unforeseen hazards of doing so.

The study doesn’t say that the “West created ISIS” or that our Special Operations Forces intended for civilians to be “caught in the crossfire”. That’s just propaganda from the fertile mind of the leftwing conspiracy crank who wrote the essay.

MintPress is a self-publishing website. The author of the piece is Nafeez Ahmed, “environment writer “for The Guardian, the leftwing British tabloid.

The late Christopher Hitchens once denounced Ahmed as “a risible individual wedded to half-baked conspiracy-mongering”

And Discover magazine “has repeatedly labelled Ahmed as a “doomer.” A December 2013 blog post says: “Once someone starts down this civilization-is-collapsing road, like Guardian blogger Nafeez Ahmed, it’s hard to stop. If you want a tour guide to the apocalypse, Ahmed is your guy.”

Read the JSOU report yourself. Nafeez Ahmed misrepresents the report and he’s spouting propaganda.

Pieter, you think “expansionist Israel” is just a throw-away line that can be ignored in the context of your “greater article”.

Well, “throw-away lines” matter.

If you wrote a long piece on global warming and threw in a line about “global warming deniers are all in the pay of oil companies”, your entire piece would be suspect, no matter what else you put in it.

Your choice of wording — “expansionist Israel” — says that your brain works in a certain way that is alien to most of us here. None of us would ever make the “mistake” of saying “expansionist Israel”. It could only be said by someone who either believes it or is for some reason comfortable repeating it. Where’d you pick it up? Cocktail parties with liberals?
