Perhaps before coming here again, you might know the basics of Scotland and Britain.

Britain is not England. Nor is Great Britain or the UK. GB/UK is England, Scotland, Wales and NI. Scotland and Scots ARE British. Scotland joined the UK in 1707, of its own free will.

Those army men you mention are as entitled to be on Scottish roads as Scottish soldiers, who are part of the same British army/armed forces, are entitled to be on English, Welsh and Ulster roads. Not forgetting that the lads you passed probably WERE Scottish!.

Sorry, but you don’t have a basic grasp of the UK and Scotland.

Delighted. Scotland has always been free, free to stay in the UK. We are no colony, no subjugated country, not part of England, but a strong and proud part of a union with Wales, England and NI. One that has worked for 307 yrs and benefitted Scotland without us losing our pride in being Scots. I can and remain both Scottish and British, and 56% of people agreed.

Also imo a lot of the other 44% was not nationalism, but a protest vote against the Tories. My own brother was a YES (but pragmatic and respectful) and even he admitted a third devo max option (stay in the UK, but greater powers, more federalist) would have got his vote.

The vague and imo inward and reductionist nationalism has been well beaten. This was their time. IMO the nationalist cause will recede back to earlier levels. The reform of Scotland and the UK to come will imo strengthen the union.

Maybe we will vote one day to leave the UK, but not on what was offered in 2014. NO THANKS.

A ‘new’ Scotland would have kept the Queen. The RF is Scottish after all (despite most people thinking they are English or German).

You wouldn’t have anyway, as Scotland is in fact Europe’s oldest country. The Unions that brought Scotland, England, Wales and Ireland/NI together didnt/don’t take away those nations status.

Yes, never mind. Scotland has always been free, it was free to choose to join the UK in 1707. Free to choose to stay last night.

Americans don’t seem to grasp this, or that the UK or GB aren’t other words for England.

England and Britain/Great Britain/United Kingdom are not the same thing!.

Those aren’t English nukes, or Scottish, they are British. As much ours as theirs, and as much Welsh and N Irish as English and Scottish.

That is a debate that will not be waged....the House of Stuart would disagree about who would be Queen:

The Hanoverians were descended from Princess Elizabeth, the daughter of James I/VI. German they may have been, but of Scottish Stuart blood, and of course Protestant.

Dang. Looks like England will remain "Britain" forever.

I was also looking forward to a new radical state crashing and burning (after being supported by "palaeo" Celt-worshiping anti-Semites).

I tried very hard to enjoy my Welsh ancestry. Learning
the language is an ongoing process. I finally deleted all
participation in online Welsh groups as the nasty socialists
perpetually injected language too foul to be on my
Facebook news feed or timeline. It’s my ancestry not my
heritage. I’ve traveled to Wales many times. Not real
interested in doing that again.

I am so sorry to hear that Myrddin, especially when you made such an effort. Remember, the vast majority of Welsh people do not speak Welsh either.

Don’t let the small-minded nationalists get you down. Like many left-wingers they are full of sound and fury and do not represent us all, but like to think they do.

If you ever return to Wales and stray into the Gwent/Monmouthshire area, I’d be delighted to show you an example of the hospitality of the Welsh (I work at a large historic property).

Keep that dragon’s fire burning!

I thought the Republic of Texas was going to break away from the Socialist States of America? With the depleted condition the US Armed Forces are in, policing the rest of the world, this might be a good time. But never forget what happened when Texas and the 10 other Southern States that voted for leaving big brother. Four years later with half million men dead they were dragged back in.

Please help me clarify my own knowledge. I was taught in my middle school geography class that “United Kingdom” is the proper name for the union of England, Scotland, Wales, and N. Ireland, “Great Britain” is the proper term for the island on which England, Scotland and Wales are located, and “Britain” is generally not really a proper term, but is generally used to synonymously with “United Kingdom”. Do I have this straight?

I should also add, “British Isles” is a geographical term referring to the larger islands of Ireland and Great Britain as well as several smaller islands, such as the Orkneys, and the Channel Islands surrounding these two larger ones.
