That particular video has been cropped and edited. If you look at the YouTube or PINAC version, it appears the man had pulled into the C Store & gotten out before or as the officer pulls into the parking lot.

You can't say with certainty but it also appears that the officer came out of his car with his pistol drawn. Either that or he is very fast on the draw.

I think a lot of this stems from when ‘they’ decided 4 years of Military life as a big plus for going into Law Enforcement was trumped by a 20 yo with 2 years Junior College under his belt.

Yep that's where you get your stable, disciplined, threat experienced, cool under pressure, courteous peace officers.

We need a rule that says, “Until the gun actually kills you, you must not, cannot return fire.” There we go, boys.

This has to be one of the most idiotic things I've seen on Free Republic recently. The victim didn't even have a firearm. Don't you think the cop could have waited long enough to determine if there was an actual threat, as opposed to just shooting the man because the copy wet his panties.

So a cops is supposed to be a mind reader and know what the dude was going to do? So for the haters here, does the cop need to be shot, stabbed or assaulted FIRST before he earns the right to protect himself???

Did the LEO not ask to see his drivers license? Did the victim not comply?

Is it OK to shoot unarmed motorist? Did the victim have any weapon in his hand?

And if the LEO did not see weapon prior to firing at the victim, why did the LEO shoot the victim?

This was not even a felony stop. No crime was even committed by the victim.

Why would the LEO respond like this was some known extremely violent wanted person? Why would the LEO respond like this was an enemy combatant?

This was not justified by any stretch of the imagination and I hope anyone alleging it is justified, are not involved in law enforcement at any level.

don’t think I said anywhere that the cops can go shooting anyone if they are nervous or deserve carte blanche.

So if this idiot is digging in his vehicle and doesn’t comply with the cops directions, then the cop needs to wait for the gun to make it’s appearance before he can defend himself??

What I do think would have been a better option was for the dimwit driver to be tazed first before the cop pulled his gun. Maybe better training for the cop??

I'm not so sure. If it had been me I think I would have started shooting at about the same time. Better to be judge by twelve...

I think that a taser would have been the better option. We will see, officer will be investigated, I’m sure a grand jury and a tribe of slip-n-fall lawyers will get involved.

The cop asks for his liscense, the guy goes into the car to get his license and you wonder what the guy is doing? The guy is complying with what the cop demands and the cop shoots him is somehow OK with you?

Anyone who states this cop should be fired answer this question:

How was the officer to know that once Jones came back out from the vehicle that he wasn't holding a gun himself ready to shoot the officer?

Anyone with half a brain knows by now that whenever you're stopped by a police officer you keep your damn' hands where the officer can see them so as not to establish yourself as a potential threat to the officer's safety first.
