Former Arkansas Gov. Mike Huckabee threatened to leave the GOP and run for the White House in 2016 as an independent if Republicans “capitulate” and support same-sex marriage.

“If the Republicans want to lose guys like me, and a whole bunch of still God-fearing, Bible-believing people, go ahead and just abdicate on this issue—and go ahead and say abortion doesn’t matter, either,” Huckabee told Tim Wildmon, president of the American Family Association, on Wildmon’s “Today’s Issues” radio show. “Because at that point, you lose me; I’m gone.”

“I’ll become an independent,” he vowed in an interview on Tuesday. “I’ll start finding people that have guts to stand. I’m tired of this.”

Huckabee’s declaration came a day after the Supreme Court cleared the way for a huge expansion of gay marriage in as many as 30 states and the District of Columbia. …

He’s 100% for real marriage. He’s against abortion in all cases except when mother’s “life is in danger”, which hardly ever happens. He does not believe in selective abortion like the majority of most republican politicians, who would abort babies because they don’t like who the father is, as in rape and incest. He has stated time and time again if he could be would repeal Roe v. Wade.

But I despise his TV show.

Conservatives need to stay in the Republican party, in my opinion, and work to change the party from within. Liberals did that to make the Democrat party increasingly liberal.

The GOP has been at Inner Party War since McKinley/Teddy Roosevelt who were opposites. That race and all following have had Donors calling the shots just as McKinley/Roosevelt was manipulated by three very rich men named Rockefeller, Carnegie, and Morgan. They were at war with each other business wise but united politically to own an election. In the end two were later liberals which was Rockefeller and Carnegie.

There comes a time when politically reunification of a party has reached a point it is not ever again possible. That is how the GOP was formed. The GOP passed the point of saving it back in 1996 thanks then to the current Speaker of The House John Boehner the principal engineer of the complete GOP-E Coup and takeover of control of the party & the house.

Unfortunately for the nation way too many GOP local and state officers within the party are far more concerned about their coveted place in the party hierarchy than they are about promoting Conservatism. If it means Shilling for GOP-E even over Conservatives to keep their position in the party they'll do just that. The GOP is rotted from the ground {local levels} up.

True he lost lots of credibility for past supports. Now lets see if his deeds match his mouth this time. I really hope it does. BTW we need voices as many as possible behind this cause.

I agree 100 per cent. Third parties that siphon votes are the best way to guarantee liberal victory - case in point, 1992 Clinton (43.0%), Bush (37.4%) and that spoiler Ross Perot (18.9%). Huckabee is talking 3rd party independent and if he does that, it’ll be a repeat of the Perot disaster. Even the Clinton’s won’t be able to believe their luck - twice in one lifetime.

We MUST change the Republican Party from within. In its current state it has evolved into something that no longer represents our core beliefs. Conservatives have no true home until we evict the Rinos.

McCain and Cornyn are great examples of the metamorphosis that has gutted the GOP. I remember a time when they were truly conservative. I don’t recognize them any longer. They breathed the foul air of DC for too many years and it twisted them.

If Dear Old Poppy hadn't been a Long Time Elitist Schmuck by abandoning the Reagan Doctrines which got him in office the first time there would not have been a Perot race to start with. Poppy Bush did not deserve reelection. He was anti-Reagan and for such we began the downward spiral under his watch military wise.

Perot should have stuck with it and maybe the GOP-E Beast hold on the party would have finally been past history for many more elections to come. I voted for Poppy in 1992 BTW. For Pete Sake Clinton ran {not meaning he actually was such} right of A New World Order {Read my lips no new taxes and 1000 points of light liberal nonsense} Poppy and won.

Another thing cost Poppy the election and rightfully so? Not taking Iraq down completely meaning Baghdad and instead the retreat. Who paid for that one? Our Troops did twice & it's likely gonna be three times thanks to both of the Bush and Obama policies. Either go to fully permanently eliminate the enemy as a future threat or stay home. Either/Or & nothing less.

The Perot caused poor Poppy to loose nonsense is getting old and doesn't hold water anymore. It's just party spin to cover rejected by the voters GOP-E politicians and nothing more.

I get your viewpoint on Bush the elder and I agree. He was not a Reagan Conservative and certainly not my choice for president though I did hold my nose and vote for him.

But...there are a lot of knee jerk straight party folks on both sides and they’ll vote party line no matter who runs. I know. I have talked to them and they irritate the heck out of me. You are underestimating them and that is a big mistake. That is why a third party on our side will guarantee victory for the liberals. If the liberals were to split the vote, we’d get the win. However, they will run only one candidate. That is not by accident. We have to wise up.

There are also lots of Conservative DEMs who will come out and vote for a Social Conservative Republican even helping them get landslide wins. If the GOP runs a liberal such as Ford, both Bush, & McCain etc it usually will be a loss or real close. Reality is simple. Had Al Gore not been a tainted DEM "W" would have lost by a wide margin. "W" and Gore ran too close on platforms because the Bush family political views are closer to Johnson Democrats than Reagan Republican or Conservative Independents. Heck Bush himself said he agreed with Gore on most issues.

If the GOP-E gets yet another of their anointed on the ticket the DEMs will likely win 2016. The GOP as a party is FAILING to vet a suitable candidate Conservatives in all parties can vote for and that's the problem. The last one was GHW Bush in 1988 elected on the Reagan Legacy actually. A Conservative stands a snowballs chance in hell of getting past the Donors now controlling the GOP.

The Conservatives lost any say in the party back around 1996-97 because of the likes of John Boehner. Most conservatives don't know that it was Boehner who set up Newts ouster. Newt wasn't perfect but he did push through The Contract With America. Now afterward we have lived under The GOP-E K Streets Contract with Donors owning both parties.

Do you really think McCain ever intended to win in 2008 or even seriously try? I don't. 2012? Well they won either way. If Obama had been booted Pro Amnesty Romney would have saved the day for them. The GOP has been corrupted to a point of no return.

Now here's your likely choices for 2016. Jeb it's my turn now Bush, Hug a Tyrant Christie, or Pro Amnesty Pro Obamacare Romney. Look for a ringer to pop up a Faux Conservative early in the primaries who really can't decide to run {ala Fred} and as such screws up the primaries by holding a place for a GOP-E friend so a Conservative can't get the nod. Who would it possibly be? Perry perhaps? Maybe Huck? Watch for it.

I hear what you are saying loud and clear. With the GOPe we were viewing the slow descent into socialism. With the Dems we are viewing the same thing at warp speed.

Cleaning up the Republican party is a herculean task. I get that, believe me. If it were easy, Cornyn would have lost the Tx primary this year.

I just don’t want people to underestimate the momentum that the Republican voters have in choosing the circle next to the candidate with an “R” by their name. Some old habits are self destructively resistant to change.

Good for Huckabee. I support him in this effort. I was just wondering- where are the Jerry Falwells, Pat Robinsons that kept the GOP party in line with traditional family values?

If the GOP surrenders on the issue of true traditional marriage I am going with Huckabee just to teach them not to forget their base.
