the only problem is, if Huck or another conservative runs for president as an independent or 3rd party, it just guarantees that a Democrat, probably Hillary, becomes the next president.

Conservatives need to stay in the Republican party, in my opinion, and work to change the party from within. Liberals did that to make the Democrat party increasingly liberal.

This is part of an old debate with no resolution, namely, do we want ideology purity, or do we want to win elections? Are the two mutually exclusive?

I say, to heck with putting party loyalties first. How’s has that worked out for us.

If he is sincere, putting God first, is the courageous stance to take.

No, that happened because so many conservative Dems became Republicans during the Reagan years, leaving the libs in charge of the Dems.

And the arguments are exactly the same, both in reasoning and wording, on the left, too. Only the names change.

The "centrist" strategy of McCain and Romney worked really well, didn't it?

The GOP has been at Inner Party War since McKinley/Teddy Roosevelt who were opposites. That race and all following have had Donors calling the shots just as McKinley/Roosevelt was manipulated by three very rich men named Rockefeller, Carnegie, and Morgan. They were at war with each other business wise but united politically to own an election. In the end two were later liberals which was Rockefeller and Carnegie.

There comes a time when politically reunification of a party has reached a point it is not ever again possible. That is how the GOP was formed. The GOP passed the point of saving it back in 1996 thanks then to the current Speaker of The House John Boehner the principal engineer of the complete GOP-E Coup and takeover of control of the party & the house.

Unfortunately for the nation way too many GOP local and state officers within the party are far more concerned about their coveted place in the party hierarchy than they are about promoting Conservatism. If it means Shilling for GOP-E even over Conservatives to keep their position in the party they'll do just that. The GOP is rotted from the ground {local levels} up.

I agree 100 per cent. Third parties that siphon votes are the best way to guarantee liberal victory - case in point, 1992 Clinton (43.0%), Bush (37.4%) and that spoiler Ross Perot (18.9%). Huckabee is talking 3rd party independent and if he does that, it’ll be a repeat of the Perot disaster. Even the Clinton’s won’t be able to believe their luck - twice in one lifetime.

We MUST change the Republican Party from within. In its current state it has evolved into something that no longer represents our core beliefs. Conservatives have no true home until we evict the Rinos.

McCain and Cornyn are great examples of the metamorphosis that has gutted the GOP. I remember a time when they were truly conservative. I don’t recognize them any longer. They breathed the foul air of DC for too many years and it twisted them.
