During the 1850s, Kansas turned into a battleground for a proxy war between abolitionists and slavery supporters. Today, Kansas has become the flash point in another national debate, this one over governments role in promoting growth.
Two years ago conservative Republican Gov. Sam Brownback spearheaded perhaps the most aggressive tax cuts in the nation. Establishment Republicans in Kansas mutinied and now have joined Mr. Brownbacks Democratic challenger, Paul Davis , the state House minority leader. By toppling the governor, they hope to marginalize conservatives in Kansas and discredit tax reform in the states.

Enter the governors experiment to jump-start growth by cutting taxes. His revenue-neutral plan slashed income-tax rates across the board, nixed all itemized deductions, exempted small business income and capped state spending growth at 2% annually. Little did he know he would trigger a civil war in his party.
House Republicans passed a less aggressive version of the plan, but moderate Republican senators who were used to controlling the legislative agenda revolted. They tried to restore the tax carve-outs and strike the spending cap. They figured the governor wouldnt sign a bill that caused a deficit, yet they still wanted to claim credit for voting to cut taxes.
They were double-dealing, says Kansas Chamber of Commerce President Mike ONeal, then the House speaker.

Where’s humblegunner whining about someone pimping a web site?
<><>he has given major contributions to Democrat candidates,
<><> Orman sucked-up to pro-abortion women, and,
<><> he's earned the endorsement of the AFL-CIO.
The buzz is Big Pharma is running out of digitalis---b/c Democrats are downing it like it was Skittles, in an effort to keep their "Hearts of Gold" beating til election day.
I lot of the revolt among the elite is because he wants to change the way judges are selected.
Uncle Militie, Free Republic’s resident expert on Kansas politics and overall political genius will, no doubt, have much to say about this. Thanks to him, we all know that Kansas is a very, very deep red state, one of the most conservative in the country. Wikipedia says so.
Why the gratuitous shot at a fellow Freezer?
The problem being that the plan turned out not to be revenue neutral. Revenue has decreased. Reveune for 2014 should wind up being $300 million less than expected and projections for next year are expected to be $300 million less than the 2015 budget that was passed. So education will continue to be cut. Infrastructure projects will continue to be cut. And that's why Brownback is in trouble.
Why Kansas Drives Liberals Crazy (great article showing complicity between moderates and democrats)
Correction:
(great article showing complicity between RINOS and Democrats)
The Republican party does not want a Conservative to be successful anywhere and they will always join with Democrats to destroy anyone challenging their fat-cat status.
I am sure that Rove’s group is involved in this.
Believe it or not absolutely none of that is a surprise to the people of Kansas. None. And yet Roberts is in the fight of his life and could well lose his seat. What does all that say about him?
And there is the crux of the issue, as far as I can tell from afar.
Wheres humblegunner whining about someone pimping a web site?

HG really has gotten under your skin. Your last 16 post have been the above exact
same wording. At least you are bumping the threads in your vanity.
I had occasion to cruise through the heart of “Moderate Republican” Kansas yesterday. The neighborhoods of Mission, Prairie Village, and Overland Park were festooned with political signs. With a very few exceptions, an Orman sign was coupled with signs for Davis and other Democrat candidates. The “moderates” have jumped ship and are now Democrats. Good riddance.
There was a day when both parties had conservative and liberal wings, that was the case when I came of age. The conservatives are completely gone from the Democrat Party, but the job is not yet done on the Republican side. The solution to this problem is to continue to do what Kansas is doing. Voting for Democrats or some Democrat surrogate is not a wise course.
I don't get over there much but FWIW the Roberts signs still out number the Orman signs. As for the moderates "jumping ship" I think it's more a case of them being expelled from the party in the last two election cycles. So I suppose it isn't any wonder that they're supporting Orman and Davis.

It pretty much is in Kansas. The moderates may call themselves Republicans but it's been made clear the party doesn't want them. So having kicked them out what do you expect them to do? Continue to vote Republican?
(Orman) earned the endorsement of the AFL-CIO.

Not to worry; the Unions are not as powerful as they used to be. They are NOT giving him money, they are just including him in their GOTV efforts. This is no big deal. The rank-and-file Union workers bolted from their leadership during the years of my hero, Ronald Reagan, and they still have NOT come back home to the almighty Union bosses.
As you passed through the heart of “Moderate Republican” Kansas, how many Roberts signs did you see? Were there more, less or about the same as the number of Orman signs?
Inquiring minds want to know.
With the latest revelations of Orman’s ties to the Soros family, I cannot imagine ANY Republican or Independent voting for Orman.
Those who are uninformed will vote Democrat in KS. They are looking for special programs to “help” them, programs that will never materialize.
GOP e types, do you see why we fight you and primary you? You do not play nice when the shoe is on the other foot. My advice, just shut up, hold your nose and vote R. We will see you again in the primary.
Good question. There were actually quite a few more Brownback and Roberts signs. There were zero yards with a Brownback and an Orman sign.
Was that the answer that you were looking for?
