Happy Election Day everyone! I figured I'd go ahead and get the election day thread started. Polls open on the east coast in a little less than an hour.

Please be sure to post observations of interest if you went to the polls today.

Mitt still loves socialized medicine. Talking about repairing Obamacare. If the GOP puts him up again in 2016, I’m staying home.

Because it all depends on what precincts have been counted. There are R precincts and D precincts. You have to have a good sample of both to project based on historical voting patterns.

Depends on the counties that have reported their results.

Some counties are heavy red and other heavy blue.

Just hope the Dem counties are not the last to report in.

Can someone please explain to me how 63%/35% in VA is “too close to call”?

That's easy. It's a small number of ballots in districts that lean GOP in every election. Wait until the numbers come in, especially when we see how many ballots were stuffed in Richmond and parts of NoVa.

Simple, not enough of the vote in. The rat areas report last, especially in the Norfolk area.

The fact that they are actually saying ‘too close to call’ however, tells me that Gillespie has overperformed in the counties that have come in, which is why they are giving him a shot.

Holy crap. Gillespie is up 59%-39% in suburban Chesterfield County. Romney only got 53% in 2012.

This is huge if that margin holds up.

I’m not so sure. This smells different.

VA elections can turn on a dime and shock everyone. Dave Brat being a recent example. The local culture tends to be very consensus oriented. And notoriously difficult to poll.

Thanks for confirming what I suspected. The reason they are saying ‘too close to call’ rather than ‘too early to call’ like NH, is because Gillespie appears to be beating expectations in the counties that have come in.

BTW, historically urban areas are the last to report there vote totals so the R never has it won until all the counting is done. And even after that Dems somehow manage to find thousands and thousands of ballots in a trunk in some city.

I'd like to agree, but it could just be local elections bringing in more conservative voters in those districts and not statewide. Wait before you celebrate.

Fox just called the West Virginia Senate race for Capito (R). That’s the first pickup for the night.

GO HERE for Colorado Election Results:

http://results.enr.clarityelections.com/CO/53335/144438/Web01/en/summary.html

As you know, everyone gets a mail in ballot here in CO.
Each envelope has a bar code and MUST be signed.
This year, it takes TWO stamps to mail in, I wonder how many low information voters didn’t put enough postage on their envelope?

ALSO: Even though you get a mail in ballot, you can also vote in person. I expect that the cross checking will verify that the person did NOT send in a mail ballot if they vote in person also. I was able to go on line and verify my ballot was received.
