Cassidy took 40.96 percent of the vote and Landrieu took 42.09 percent. A second Republican in the race, retired Air Force Col. Rob Maness, claimed enough votes — 13.76 percent — to keep either Landrieu or Cassidy from topping the 50 percent mark. Five other candidates split the rest of the vote.

All the GOP candidates got a majority of the vote.
If the Republicans stick together, they will soundly defeat Landrieu next month.
Oh Please!!!! Landrieu always wanted a one on one election? Are we supposed to believe that Landrieu expected this runoff, and wanted to have a runoff election to win re-election?

I like this. The candidate must get 50% to win. In Virginia, we just had a spoiler, AGAIN!, keep a Republican out of office. We need to switch to the runoff method.

Landrieu Should Concede – Today

Rather than put the State of Louisiana through four more weeks of TV ads, and a campaign that will be nothing but mud slinging, Mary Landrieu should do the honorable thing and concede to Bill Cassidy.
She can’t win. It can’t happen. No way. None. Cassidy came within a handful of votes of out-polling Landrieu.
It’s time to move on and begin the healing process for our state.

We can guarantee you won’t hear the first Louisiana newspaper or TV station editorialize on this issue. They all WANT a runoff. Why, you ask?
Money. Advertising dollars. They do what they do to make money. Remember that the next time some editorial writer or TV talking head tries to claim the moral high ground on some issue.

I don’t know what the black turnout was in La., but if Moochelle can mobilize enough of them with promises of fried chicken then Miss Piggy may be in with a shot, especially if Maness voters don’t show up in force.
So, is the Louisiana Senate seat still counted in the (after last night) 43(D) seats?
Iow, it will probably be 53(R) and 42(D) after the run-off?
I really doubt that Dems are going to turn out heavily for her.
