Democrats Sink to Pre–Great Depression Levels in State Legislatures

In addition to the GOP gains in the U.S., Senate, House and governorships it was an historic night for the party in state legislatures.

Here is the summary by Tim Storey of the National Conference of State Legislatures:

The Republican wave that swept over the states left Democrats at their weakest point in state legislatures since the 1920s.

Everything went in the direction of the GOP as Republicans seized new majorities in the West Virginia House, Nevada Assembly and Senate, New Hampshire House, Minnesota House and New York Senate, The West Virginia Senate is now tied.

Control of several legislative chambers was still up in the air early Wednesday as counting continued in several tight races that will determine control of the Colorado Senate, New Mexico House and Maine Senate.

The lone bright spot for Democrats was holding majorities in the Iowa Senate and Kentucky House.

The overall number of divided state governments will increase with changes in governor in places such as Massachussets, Illinois, Pennsylvania and Maryland along with the legislatures in West Virginia, Minnesota and New York.

UPDATE: Republicans have taken control of the Colorado senate and the New Mexico house. They also have a chance to win the Colorado house and the Washington house, after mail-in ballots are finally counted. The state legislative chambers now stand at 65 Republican, 23 Democrat, 1 tie, and 4 undecided.

This is a gift, probably a two year window to press for Article V. We won’t likely get another opportunity like it. I hope the states wake up and take advantage of it.

John Oliver just did a segment on state legislatures on Last Week Tonight. IIRC, from 2011-2013, the bills passed by Congress was over two orders of magnitude LESS than the amount passed by states, It was staggering.

To build on it you need an affirmative conservative message and legislative plan. Conservative populism is the way.

Item one: indexing taxes for inflation.

We must starve the Beast.

Item two: border security - build the fence, then we’ll reform immigration, but not until we’ve got a fence.

PS: get rid of the TSA.

There is a cold hard depression among the Republican Haters across America, and some are posting about their deep depression today on Free Republic.

To those who hate last night's election results. Enjoy your misery and depression while the rest of us celebrate a victory.

A recession is when your neighbor loses his job.
A depression is when you lose your job.

A recovery is when as many Democrats as possible loses theirs.

Martinez is very popular. Weh, not so much. Despite all his flag waving and baby kissing for the cameras, his true colors bleed through: a bitter, selfish, old man, willing to throw anybody under that big ‘ol Allen Weh bus to get himself into office. Udall, on the other hand, clearly a Marxist from hell. Schizophrenic voters? Most certainly so.

Agree completely about Weh; I remember his antics against Susana in 2010.

Final unofficial results from SOS office: Besides the NM House, Pubs won Governor, SOS, Land Commissioner , Judge Court of Appeals. Dems won rest of contested statewide offices including PRC District 5.

Steve Pearce won NM-2 with an amazing 29% win over the Dem (64.5 - 35.5). He also won every county in his district including Dona Ana and Grant!!

As for the GOPE, they are on probation. They also have two years. If they thought conservatives didn't show up in 2012, all they need do is continue to genuflect to Obama or force Jeb on us in 2016.

Alabama thundered over the dims yesterday. Super majority in both houses in the state. All the 11 I think the email said it was, major offices in the state are republican. A doctor who has never held office slammed a dim who had been in the state legislature for years and years and dumped his butt on the street. Bama kept it’s top seed as the #1 conservative state in the union. We don’t like dims and we don’t like Obama and his communist leadership. We are solid for the Constitution, freedom, the Second Amendment, and we are PRO support that marriage is between a MAN AND A WOMAN, not between Bob and John or Rita and Betty!!!

The GOP lost very few incumbents! This was an anti-Democrat wave!

The head line means there are least number of democrats in the house since the Great Depression. It doesn’t mean the democrats are greatly depressed. Or were you joking. Very funny if you were.

West Virginia really surprised me,

I was only surprised by how quickly it happened. We've been moving slowly toward over conservatism and Republican Party representation for years ... but it just kind of blew up this year.

Earl Ray Tomblin is probably sitting in the governor's mansion drinking moonshine and worried about what the new legislature is going to dump on his desk. Embrace the Suck, Earl Ray!

“...I hope they are as depressed as I was the night this ACLU Community Organizer plopped his butt in the White House!!!...”

Amen Bro! Having one RAT communist left in office is one RAT too many.
I pray a curse and a pox on all of em. The “community agitator” got his butt whipped royally, but there are still some of his buds still out there in office.
Today, the stupid POS acted like he’s still in charge...LOL...we shall see! He refuses to acknowledge the voice of the People. Let’s see where that takes this egotistical maniac.
