House Speaker John Boehner became eligible for Medicare when he turned 65 years old Monday, but hes not planning to sign up.
Instead, Boehner is going to keep his expensive Obamacare insurance plan.
The Affordable Care Act required members of Congress to get off the federal governments insurance plan and, in most cases, enroll in an Obamacare policy. When members turn 65, they become eligible for Medicare as well.
When asked at a press conference on Tuesday about his health care coverage plans, he paused and laughed.
Ill continue to purchase my expensive health care coverage, he said in an obvious nod to his Obamacare policy.

65? He should retire.
Dear Boehnerdork,
Seppukku.
Learn it, love it, do it, you low IQ POS.
This is just dumb. He is doing it out of some sort of obligation for some reason. When he finally does sign up for Medicare, he will have all sorts of fines to pay and a very high monthly premium for the rest of his life. This doesn’t make sense to me.
If you’ve worked as a GS, in the DC area....the government-sponsored healthcare options are all four-star and reasonably priced. Why would any idiot sign up for Medicare, when you have reasonably priced healthcare?
Oops, spelled seppuku incorrectly.
An Obama moment.
Sorry.
The “Post-Racial” President - hahahahahaha
He’s a fool. There’s just no getting around it.
He thinks he’ll look bad if he goes on Medicare. It’s all about image.
He thinks that if he stays on Obamacare, folks will think he was a stand up guy.
Never-mind that he is sending the message that Obamacare is a good program.
I don’t know who advises this guy, but they shouldn’t be just fired. They should be executed! LOL
Does not want to be seen taking health care from the public trough. Will only end up being used against him in a Dem campaign commercial.
Social Security, SSI, welfare, retirement, and other "entitlement" programs will also be brought under a single umbrella program.
The current Social Security and Medicare programs are unsustainable.
Maybe to be called SchumerSecurity in about 2024/2028.
Program consolidation will not be a bad thing if it shrinks the federal payroll.
If your still working at age 65 you can delay starting Medicare without penalties if your employers health plan is eligible. My understanding is that people in Exchanges have to go on Medicare when they reach 65. Congress critters must have exempted themselves.
He should definitely go but the problem is not that he is 65. He is a career RINO politician. This is all he knows how to do and is still feeding at the public trough. Many americans still work at 65 for a number of reasons including liberal / RINO policies that have decreased their ability to save.
Politico is one of the most liberal sites period. They hired Chilian also. These are a bunch of disgraced lib journalists. The Congress and House members under 65 get the same coverage as our AFGE union Gov employees. Only a very few stated they would take Obamacare. Heck, Obama has exempted every union type from his plan and veterans have the VA which is run by Obamacare rules.
Thanks!
