Basic gun safety: Treat every gun as if it were loaded. Know where the safety is and how to engage/disengage it. NEVER, NEVER draw a gun unless you intend to use it and use it to kill in defense or life or limb. And always double-tap.

Uh, they were in an accident.
It is completely possible for the gun to end up pointing at her and hit in such a way to fire, never mind if her finger was on it.
