Holy God,

How often we gloss over this verse and ignore the incredible promise it includes. By believing in You we can actually do greater works as Jesus told us. It is beyond our comprehension, and yet it is Your promise to those who believe. Lord, let us never limit You, for when we do, we miss out on so much of what You want to do in us and through us.

Father, we are grateful for the Thanksgiving celebrations that have been occurring in our homes and churches across the nation. Truly we are a blessed people, and we acknowledge You are our wonderful Provider. We know that every good and perfect gift comes from You and we praise Your Mighty Name for all the blessings that we in America have.

Lord, our troops are ever on our hearts and we know that You care for them and protect them night and day. Help them to stand strong and brave in the face of adversity and give them hope for the days to come. We pray for an outpouring of love and assistance toward them and their families during the Christmas approaches.

Father, You are the One Who chose to save us, even though we were unworthy. You are the One Who chose to send Your Son to this earth, even though You knew He would die. You are the One Who chose to raise Him from the dead, so that we who believe could dwell with You in eternity. Lord, we thank You for so great a Love, so great a Gift. In the Name of Jesus Christ we praise You, Amen.

IN THE COLDEST and darkest days of the American Revolution, General George Washington raised his prayers for the survival of his beleaguered Army and of the new Nation. The Lord answered his prayers, upheld his Army through a punishing nadir to everlasting Glory, and bestowed His Manifold Blessings upon the new Nation.

FROM THE BRAVE, albeit weary, ill-equipped, and untrained volunteers who marched into Valley Forge on 19 December 1777 arose, with the help of some gallant friends from across the waves, the cohesive fighting force that became the United States Army, global defender of Freedom and scourge of Tyrants.



AS GENERAL WASHINGTON lifted his prayers on high in that bleak Winter, let our prayers now rise like a fountain for our Heroes in the American Armed Forces who seek to secure the benefits of Freedom on behalf of a people hungry for them. Father, look on our prayers for them with favor, guide their steps in righteousness and gather them in the shelter of Your Healing Wings. Bless and uphold them in the performance of their Mission. Through Jesus Christ, Your Son, with the Holy Spirit, one God, forever and ever, Amen.
