Senator Rand Paul (R-KY) reacted to a grand jury's decision to not indict a New York City Police Officer in the death of Eric Garner by saying he was "horrified" by the video and blasting politicians for passing "bad laws" that "put our police in a difficult situation" in an interview broadcast on Wednesday's "Hardball" on MSNBC.

Cigarette taxes further the leftist control agenda,
as does the “white cop killing black man” meme.
And to answer your question, yes, I heard the businesses were protesting that the man was selling “loosies” (single cigs) on the street to avoid the taxes that the businesses were having to pay.
You could make quite a profit, actually, if you undercut the tax and still kept the remaining margin.
I agree that the police officers should have just let him run. He would not have gotten far. If he had been committing a violent crime or had pulled a gun then bringing him down would have been justified. My call would have been man 2.
There is a lot of blame to go around on this one, including Mr. Garner himself. Undoubtedly his lifestyle (obese, petty criminal) contributed to his untimely demise.
Now, the Left is going to be in a dilemma.
They will push for free cigs for all to avoid another Garner, but then, that would conflict with the health goals of Obamacare.
What to do, what to do.....
The “anti-tobacconess” of the left is confusing, even to them, probably.
Control something people enjoy vs taxing it...
What a dilemma.
Word on the street from my cousins on Staten Island is YES, the store owner called in the complaint.
STUPID NY cig taxes are complicit in this whole thing.
Regards,
When will you see the race pimps like Sharpton protesting these bad laws?
I wonder if Mr Garner had been selling loose dubees , would we be sreaming for the repeal of anti pot laws?
Thank-you for your comment in answering my question.
Watch the tape, the guy didn’t even try to run, this whole thing is a complete Eff up by the cops on every level. His resisting consisted of him pulling his arm away and saying don’t touch me... that’s it, to which one of the officers promptly put him in a choke hold.
There were at least 3 if not 4 cops surrounding the man, he wasn’t going anywhere nor even tried to, the situation was completely mishandled. The fact a grand jury didn’t indict the cop for anything out of this, is disgusting on every level. If the NYPD policy allows for them to act this way, they it needs fixed, if it doesn’t that grand jury and the DA that brought it before them are morally reprehensible individuals.
I am sure the cop had no intent to kill the man, or that the mans race had anything to do with it, but there is no way, none, short of this choke hold being proper policy for the NYPD, which I do not believe it is, that the cop in question should not be facing some sort of criminal charges for his actions.
BLOOMBERG EFFECT*******************
I like Rand Paul, not as a presidential candidate but as a Senator. However this statement sounds like he is pandering to the Abbys. Something I find very unattractive in an elected official.
Not complying with a policeman's directive, ie put your hands behind your back, is a big piece of this.
Now, I am not condoning the actions of the police, what I am saying is Mr. Gardner was complicit in his own demise. Had he complied, I doubt he'd be dead.
Actually people with poor health shouldn’t resist arrest. That, and in this case I think a tazer may have been a better option, but I don’t have to apprehend people that large so I’ll just do the right thing and realize we pay police officers to do that for us and I’ll shut up.
Unless Garner was going out of state or stealing the packs of cigarettes he paid the tax for them.
If so then are cigarettes going to be treated the same as money and taxed every time they change hands?
My advice to that store owner is UP your security because and this will go for the other businesses as well.
A pack of cigarettes is like $15 on NYC. A quick drive over the bridge toNJ and over to PA or Delaware, you can get them for $5.50 to $6.00 a pack.
Sell a loosie for $1.00 each and you make $20/pk - $5.50/pk cost even if we add in bridge toll and fuel costs to $6.50 a pack he’s still making a killing on the loosies.
Enter the business owners, and then the police.
This can and should be laid directly at the feet of the democRATS that run the NY City Council.
More proof that cigarets do kill.
That is exactly my feelings. Why does any one need a “LICENSE” to sell cigarettes? Why does any one need a “LICENSE” to pick up passengers in his own car? Why does any one need a “LICENSE” to rent his house or apartment to visitors of his city, for a day, a week or a month? Oh, these politicians will try and tell you that “IT’S FOR YOUR PROTECTION”. Protection from whom? Let’s all be honest with each other, the only reason these government entities demand a “LICENSE” from any one is “TAXES”. Whether it’s FEDERAL, STATE, CITY, or COUNTY “LICENSES”, it all boils down to “TAXES”. Now, these government entities will never admit it, but the “TAXES” they get from these enterprising individuals, wouldn’t pay the salary of one of these “INVESTIGATORS” for a year. But never mind, they still have “CONTROL” over these enterprising individuals, and every one else for that matter.
