After a year of several fleet-wide groundings for the F-35, the latest problem to plague the fifth-generation fighter is forcing the U.S. Air Force to revamp an entirely separate fleet to support the militarys most expensive plane yet.
The F-35 can only fly on jet fuel under a certain temperature due to a range of heating issues attributed to the F-35B variants short takeoff and vertical landing engine. According to the USAF, the dark-green trucks that carry that fuel absorb too much heat from the sun to keep the planes in the sky.

Perfect.
But by all means, kill the F-22.
Some homo in logistics/supply just wanted to have a reason for making the truck fleet puce.
Hopefully they turn off the music so the enemy doesn't hear us coming.
If the fuel pressure drops in fuel injected engines you get vapor lock.
bubbles do not go through injectors.
But then, will we have an issue with the fuel already on the plane if it's sitting on a hot taxiway for a few hours? You know, like if it's supposed to be kept fueled and ready for a mission?
I am calling BS on this report. If its liquid fuel and can be dumped into the combustion chamber, it should work just fine in a jet engine. F35 engine may be new hi-tech, but its still a jet engine.
Can’t pin this on Barry. This program was hatched under Clinton.
Or a disgronifier valve?
FTA: “...which uses the fuel as a coolant to absorb heat from the JSFs powerful subsystems...”
It’s not an engine issue per se...sounds more like it’s a systems cooling issue.
If the fuel is too hot, it can’t act effectively as a heat sink to draw off heat from the avionics packages.
No problem - because cold fuel is always available during wartime missions. Just like cold beer and hot women.
Hey. I can’t wait until the Navy paints its carriers white.
I have heard about using ice cooling on fuel as a hot rod trick for decades as well.
A jet engine is not a piston engine. You pour (spray) the fuel into the combustion chamber and light it if its not already lit. Expanding hot gas does the rest. Very simple. This report sounds like BS.
Already has one. This is why it can fly at night.
Can Anybody say scrap this hunk of junk... F-22 is the one no STOL but ya can’t have everything!!! Fast and sleek!!!
This administration has been wildly successful beyond the dreams of the most ardent Marxist.
Reminds me of the Vince Edwards character in “Deal of the Century” after their prototype rocket goes off course due to moisture
” haven’t you @sswipps ever heard of friggin rain?”
My money is on the fault being with some crappy new “green” fuel that is useless above a certain temperature
Dig a ditch and bury the refuel line to the tarmac.
