Ted Cruz's moves on spending bill roil Republicans

WASHINGTON (AP) — One colleague called the tactics of tea party-backed Sen. Ted Cruz on the $1.1 trillion spending bill a painful echo of last year's 16-day partial government shutdown.

Another senator said it was a strategy without an end game.

And that sniping came from Cruz's fellow Republicans.

The 43-year-old Texas freshman in a hurry — he's considering a 2016 presidential run — infuriated several GOP colleagues with a last-minute attempt to force a vote on President Barack Obama's executive actions on immigration.

The move upended lawmakers' weekend plans and, more troubling for his party, gave Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid, D-Nev., an opening to move forward on long-stalled Obama nominees.

When Cruz got his vote Saturday, he lost badly, 74-22, as even Republicans who agree with him on immigration repudiated his effort. Moments later, Congress cleared the spending bill.

"You should have an end goal in sight if you're going to do these types of things and I don't see an end goal other than irritating a lot of people," said Sen. Orrin Hatch, R-Utah.

...and Hatch has been a Senator for how many decades?

We have Mike Lee, who is for everything I am for, and what does Hatch do, downs him every chance he gets.

I’m for SOMEONE who will stand up, with a back bone and other things, that will say: “STOP that is enough!” and then get laws changed that Zero has trampled on because he thinks he has the right, someone who will put our Constitution AHEAD of all decisions made concerning our Great Country, and she is still great, someone who will say: “If you want to come into OUR country then do it the legal way”

I think Cruz, Lee, Gowdy or people like they are, are the ones we need to all out support, and let the PEOPLE who are here LEGALLY know this is who we are for.

Ted Cruz stood up for all of America. While the basis of this statement is against the funding of Amnesty in the budget bill, a lesson in politics begins at about 11 minutes. This is 36 minutes every one concerned about our future should listen to.

In the speech you hear Senator Cruz referring to Madame President and may wonder why. On this day, for political positioning Elizabeth Warren was given the position. At the end Elizabeth Warren, the democrat presidential hopeful is dumbfounded by what was just presented and in her confusion she does what Barack Obama does – pushes the motion on to someone else who will be in charge later.

The subject is a bill about immigration, but those links are to a proposed bill about energy conservation.

I’m confused now - were there two Cruz bills?

“Which US states allow a recall of a Senator? Or do any?”

None, but since they no longer follow or care about the rule of law I see no reason why we cannot recall someone.

If they choose to fight it, we do have precedent with Obama’s total disregard for the law.

“I agree with Cruz’ position on this, but Cruz is not “lookin’ good on this.” Harry Reid ate his lunch.”

Harry Reid didn’t eat anyone’s lunch. The rats are still in the majority and everyone and their mother knows Cruz couldn’t win this. Wasnt the point. When Cruz runs in 2016, he will now have the amnesty card to play against the establishment.

What I want to know is what happened to the bank provision that Liawatha was bitching about? Did that get pulled from the final bill?

Reid was taking the opportunity to tee up a couple of dozen Obama nominees to get voted on Monday morning.

No, he didn't. That's the RINO spin. It was going to happen anyway, and Cruz knew it.

Nothing new in the uniparty world. Except for those who refuse to the see or acknowledge the truth that’s standing right in front of them. And for those people what can be said? You just can’t fix stupid or delusional.

One thing that we can say, though, is that in some sense most people do get it and are choosing not to spend their time or resources on elections. The voter participation rate this year was the lowest for a midterm since WWII.

WI has a recall provision; but the U.S. Senate and House recognize no recall petitions from any state.

If that is the case, recall anyway then don't pay the good congress-critters; let their crooked buddy's foot the salary. It would be a golden opportunity to show the corruption of DC (and exercise the 10th Amendment).

Heller, our R Senator (NV) is following McConnell all the way. So disappointed. Time to put his office number on speed dial!

Yeh the party of status quo does not like the boat rocking in a new direction. We have new blood coming in Jan 2015 so hopefully the boat will really start rocking then. Steve Stockman joins the club and a few other conservtives.

Every single one (RINO, who voted Yea) should be labeled as a Progressive RepublicanTraitor, going forward. Cruz put them all on public notice as such.

There. Fixed it.

The ONLY funds I contribute money to is the Senate Conservatives Fund and the Congressional Tea Party members in individual races.

I actually took my sticker that says : “Sorry, I make my candidate contributions through the Senate Conservatives fund” and put it on the GOP fundraising application I got from them and sent it back!
Eff them!

Oh, but there was an endgame...to get every senator, especially the republicans, on the record.

And when push came to shove, twenty republicans opted to stand with democrats, rather than stand with Cruz and the constitution.

Exactly. Vote the bums out who are up for re-election in 2016

There is a way to stop the appointees on Monday— and that is
continuous delay. Let’s watch and learn. Reid is toast and his actions have many repercussions to him— monumental ones.
There are ways.

And if McConnell restores the former rules— he is a target as well. This shall not pass.

Someone needs to ask them— “What IS the Long Game, bubba?” To stay elected? Keep power regardless what happens to the Nation? Why bother with a platform.

Never forget what drove this— concerns about having enough money for 2016’s g.dmnd convention!!! We don’t need a convention, we need a ground game. Hold the little conventions in each state and internet them together. Save a boat load of money and bring back power to the States.
Deo Vindice.
