Think you've got a hard-knock life? Try sitting through the new "Annie."
A rewritten, re-orchestrated but far from revitalized version of the old Broadway musical, this latest edition moves it out of the Depression and into a modern, tech-driven New York.....
Where's the excitement? They're not very apparent here, judging by the kids I saw at my screening. The row in front of me spent most of the movie talking....

“Beasts of the Southern Wild”
She was cute and won an Academy Award.
Not sure if this movie is right for her.
Reviving musicals is fine.
Taking movies and arbitrarily making them into musicals is utter NONSENSE.
Broadway now has musical versions of “Rocky”, “Waitress” and other films.
They’re just out of ideas.
I think the recent episode of South Park confronts what eh kids are “trending” now and would rather sit in a room together texting each other and watching You Tube videos of people commenting on videos that they are playing -
pretty funny stuff - considering my 6 yr old was doing the same thing until we stopped YouTube access on his iPad...
Who plays “Diddy Warbucks”?

SNL Black Annie
Should have named it, “Anniequa.”
Having seen two off Broadway productions of “Annie” back in the early 1970’s , before any of the film versions - I never thought any of the resulting films caught the charm of the stage shows. The only one that came close was the Disney version which came out in the 1990’s.
I will probably give this one a try, but it looks and sounds as though they tried to make it too “hip”, which means the acting and the musical arrangements are going to sound very dated in a short time - which also happened with “The Wiz”.

Kind of like what they did to another delightful Broadway musical when it was adapted for film...THE WIZ. Possibly the worst musical ever made, taking the crown from another stinker, SONG OF NORWAY.
The name of this movie should be “Blannie”.
“Trying not to say anything mean.”
You are nicer than my hubby. He maintains she is now the spitting image of Karl Malden!
All whites must attend oe be’s called a racist!
They need to get rid of their writers.
There’s a musical about Litttle Annie Fannie? That’s great!
That is a hilarious episode of a very funny show.
" A gay musical, called 'Gay'. That's quite gay Gay musical? Aren't all musicals gay? This must be like the gayest musical ever made! It's got some pretty good reviews! 'The story of a young man trying to find his sexuality in the uncaring Thatcher years.'"
lol.....

I just looked up that movie. That explains a lot. It probably seemed like a no-brainer to cast an Oscar nominee (she did not win, BTW). She's now a little older and maybe too self-conscious to act as a free spirit in a musical. This has happened with cute li'l kid actors on TV shows who grow up to be much less cute and charming big kid actors and adolescents.
ITA! I actually went to see The Wiz. What a waste of my money and time. The only musical I ever saw that was worse was the musical version of Lost Horizon.
Somebody is pushing for this girl to be a star. Just look at all the ‘awards’ this 11 year old girl has won:

Reminds me of Barry.
