BRITAIN is on high alert for a beheading attack after counterterrorism agencies picked up “chatter” from jihadists about plans to murder members of the armed forces.

The Times reports that police and intelligence agencies are taking the threats extremely seriously in the wake of the Paris terror attacks.

A former head of MI5 last night warned the revelations by CIA fugitive Edward Snowden had left Britain at risk of ‘vigilantism’ because it was less able to protect itself from Islamist fanaticism.

Breaking his silence on the devastating impact of the security breach, Jonathan Evans said: ‘The result of this can only be that the overall risk of a successful terrorist attack in this country has risen.’

A counterterrorism source told The Times: “Our gun laws make it very hard for them to carry out the sort of attacks that happened in Paris."

What? Is he nuts? Can he possibly believe this? The terrorists don't give a flying f*ck about laws. Does anyone in their right might believe that "gun control laws" will stop a single attack?

We are being ruled by idiots.

you know WHO they are and you know WHERE they are.

if ANYONE gets beheaded, the blame lies at the feet of those in power.

Shortly after the restrictions were clamped down on handguns in the U.K., firearms involved in crimes began to shift away from revolvers and such, in favor of former Eastern Bloc military hardware, such as the Skorpion machine pistol. If the authorities don’t understand just how easy it is to load a crate of AKs into a fishing boat in the Channel, then they are truly worthless.

My point exactly. And, they are truly worthless.

Often, the only way to defeat an enemy is to adopt some of their own tactics.

This refers to a potential attack on members of the military, so presumably a repetition of the Lee Rigby scenario. Just as a point of information for the benefit of a non-U.S. Freeper - is it usual for members of the U.S. military to go armed when off-base and off-duty on home territory? Once off duty, do they have the same right to carry as civilians, or is that overriden by military regulations? For UK military to go armed when off-base would not, presumably, require any general change in the gun laws, though I suspect it would be resisted for all sorts of reasons.

Maybe if they had reacted intelligently after the last headchopping incident by a bearded savage, this would not be a problem.
Right reaction: expel all members of the ROP because they belong to an organization that actively promotes the violent overthrow of British society.

I’m retired US Navy who still works for the Navy. We are not allowed to carry firearms on base, only the personnel on watch are armed. On base is almost the only place (there are a few out in town, like the bank) where I don’t go armed.

We know, the IRA used to do it for years, and we used to stop them. Well, most times.
